Somewhat surprisingly, I found myself quite liking Edge - in fact, it's now my main browser. I've had no crashes or performance issues at all. Yup, it has some minor irritations, but then so do all the other browsers.
The power brick is definitely the place to start but, the fact the fan runs continuously makes me think it may not be the problem.

Exactly. The best solution is the one that's most suited to a particular application/environment/budget. There never is a universal best - which, of course, is exactly why that perennial favourite of the interwebs - the "Top X Best" list - is pretty pointless.
Outlook/OWA - maybe simply because I've used them for so long. Familiarity doesn't always breed contempt.
