@EddieJennings using virt-builder
and virt-install
together is another nice option to create Linux VMs and its easy to script it too.

RE: Zoho Assist problem
For RHEL, CentOS, and Fedora that have Wayland enabled and is set to Wayland session by default when logging in. You would have to log out and then select GNOME on Xorg before you log in so you can remote desktop into them using remote tools like MeshCentral or TeamViewer.
Lately I've been disabling Wayland and selecting Xorg as the default GNOME session for that reason.

Speaking of, MeshCentral is able to be behind a CF Proxy as of today. So we just turned it on.
What changed with MC that it can now be proxied?
Don't know, but that was the specific purpose of the 0.7.24 release yesterday.

Going to have to RTFM soon, but WTF with a firewall enabled?
I do not want my hypervisor doing jack shit to my instances.
Although is selected, it's not active.

RE: Reconsidering ProxMox
There's a firewall setting at the Datacenter (cluster) level, for each PVE hosts and for each VM/Container.
-
RE: Light weight Distro for VMs
You might be able to getaway with using a minimal install of Debian, Ubuntu, or Fedora and use containers.
Pihole and AdGuard works great as containers.
You could also us Proxmox and instead of full VM, just use lxc.

RE: Proxmox initial setup annoyances
The git repo is from someone else. But the pve-nag-buster script hasn't been updated with the fix for NAGTOKEN variable.
pve-nag-buster make changes to the data.status while the one from John McLaren changes Ext.Msg.show

@registry2021
You can via GPO.I read pushing software via gpo is a pain. is there another way?
You can use tools like PDQ Deploy to deploy software/updates.

Ansible and salt are my first two choices. Cockpit can work as well, but not as easily centrally managed.
Fedora gets all the love when it comes to having the latest version of Cockpit too.

RE: Any pfSense users? Are upgrades smooth?
I think it was one of those Lawrence Systems YouTube videos when mentioned about making sure to upgrading pfsense before the package

@pete-s said in Any pfSense users? Are upgrades smooth?:
Major version upgrades can cause issues. So 2.4.x to 2.5.x have to be looked at first.
Minor version upgrades are usually problem free.
Problem with the major upgrades is usually related to a new FreeBSD version and if you have installed any extra packages. And sometimes to deprecated functionality.
I wouldn't upgrade without doing the homework first.
so if .4 to .5 is a major update I will put that off until next week. too many other things going right now.
Lawrence mentioned in the video about the update process for pfSense 2.4.5
