Firebird 3.0 Released
mlnews last edited by
The venerable (35 years old this year!!) Firebird relational database system has had its first major new version release announced today: Firebird 3.0 is ready for production. Firebird began life in 1981 as Interbase, one of the earliest relational database products. In 2000, Borland open sourced Interbase and from that code base, the Firebird project sprung forth with Firebird 1.0 releasing just weeks after Interbase went open source. Interbase itself was quickly closed again and remains a background competitor with the more vibrant and popular Firebird. Both Interbase and Firebird equally carry on the legacy of the original 1981 - 2000 Interbase product line. Firebird having significantly eclipsed the original product's namesake offspring.
