Happy Veterans Day!
-
Over the years, the United States has engaged in many wars and military actions with varying degrees of public approval and very mixed results. WWI and WWII were generally supported, with conflicts like the Korean War and the Vietnam War being far more controversial, right down to today and the war in Iraq that is generally despised.
All that being said, on this day, we care not about the political reasons behind these conflicts, and we don't even care about the validity of the death (whether it was in a "good" war or a "bad" one). What we want to do is take a moment to thank all veterans for doing the jobs that most of us don't, and would probably never choose to, do.
"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history and naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain." - John Adams
So if you see a vet today, thank them for doing the job, whether by choice or by draft, that at least I haven't, as many of us haven't, so that we may have the ability to live our lives. To those alive, thank you for your service. And to those who came home in a pine box, thank you for your sacrifice.
I personally would like to thank and give a remote salute to @Richard for his time in the Marines!
