Blackberry Releases the Priv, Their First and Possibly Last Android Phone
-
BBC Reports on the Blackberry Priv, an attempt by the flailing phone maker to find some middle ground to entice businesses without annoying users. The new phone drops the Blackberry OS and moves to Android making it, to many, just another generic Android phone - but with a slide out keyboard like it is 2009. The Priv has a weird name and the slide out keyboard feels like it is from another era and moving away from the BB OS is a big gamble but at this point, RIM has little to lose.

I'm assuming that the name Priv is meant to be pronounced with the long "i" sound making it short for privacy. But I had to stop and wonder for a bit. The way that it is spelled that's the third sound that comes to mind. The first is with a long "e" sound like Preev, but that just makes it sound like a generic Russian phone and doesn't seem to mean anything. The second is as written - a short "i" sound which in the US would make it sound like it was short for a privy.

You were not the first to see that and think of it as a toilet...
