Is there a way to install Windows onto a software RAID? Is this just impossible?

Ordered a new laptop which has 3 mSata slots and I'd love to run a Raid 0 of mSata SSDs as the only storage. Wondering if there's a way to do it.

Linux as the base with windows virtualized on top. My HP actually does with if you enable Drive encryption, not sure why though.

Good suggestion, but the main advantage of this laptop is its performance, the which I'd want to run natively. Thanks.

Ever since Windows 7 it has been native in the OS for the desktop versions. It's been on the server side since 1996 or earlier. It's just built in.

There are third party software RAID options too, but they are not very good either.

In the disk manager it should just be called a mirrored set.

Of course Windows 10 final is just out today, so there might be things that we don't know about it yet.

I'm talking about installling the OS onto a RAID. Can't you only create software RAIDS the built-in Windows way post-install? Hoping to do a 3-disk Raid 0 on a new laptop that has 3 mSata slots.

It's fairly uncommon for a mobo to not have basic RAID capability - you may be in luck with that.

Yep its post install but that doesn't mean much you can shrink and grow drives etc with no downtime (at least on server s, I don't work on client os much). I'd no raid over windows. If this is a high end computer it might have a raid option Rom or settings in the bios for it. I know my HP z800 has full on LSI raid built into the motherboard but its basicly server grade, not consumer.

Just keep in mind that what is on the motherboard will be, with only the rarest exception, FakeRAID. This is low end (far below Windows desktop software RAID) software RAID with the dubious situation of attempting to lie to the customers about it being on the motherboard. There isn't actually anything on the motherboard, it is all software.

Oh, that's more information that we needed. RAID 1 is supported for the OS, RAID 0 is not.

Some do. If you can get an LSI you are in great shape!

Yup, sure makes it easier to setup though haha

So was I. Just RAID 1, which it does support.

Ok, so no way to do it other than w/ a shitty on-laptop-motherboard fake RAID. Sad/check.
