Yes, five hours ago in Southern Chile. 3,500 people evacuated.
Wow...hope everyone made it out alright...

Didn't see any news of problems. Chile has a pretty good handle on these things. They are on the ring of fire and tend to predict these well and evacuate efficiently.

The geological ring of fire... not the Johnny Cash song
-
Both, perhaps.

The Villarrica volcano in southern Chile erupted in the early hours of Tuesday morning, spewing ash and lava up to 1,000m (3,300ft) into the air.More than 3,000 people have been evacuated from the volcano's vicinity. The mayor of the nearby town of Pucon said residents had left "calmly".
President Michelle Bachelet said she would travel to the area on Tuesday to assess the situation.
The 2840m-high Villarrica is an active volcano with a lava lake in its crater.
...
According to Chile's Ministry of Mining, its last major eruption was in 1985. -
Something tells me that there is NOT a lake in its crater anymore.

Terrifying but beautiful. If I was not so dangerously uncoordinated, I would be one of those people that walks on lava flows.

One of those people? Is that a thing people do for real?

Pretty incredible.
