USB Drive on ESXI 5.5 free VM?
-
 Is it possible? help

What do you mean? Run ESXI on a USB stick? Yes. It depends on the USB stick and Server supporting it though, not all work. Or do you mean USB passthrough to a VM? for that you edit the VM Settings Add a USB Controller to the VM, then add a USB Device and select which device.

No, i have a Host that I need to copy a ton of data from. 400GB. I'm doing it over the network and only getting 4-5MBs, i was hoping to get @least usb 2.0 speeds

@Hubtech said: No, i have a Host that I need to copy a ton of data from. Is the data in the VM? You could copy it like that. over USB. If it's something in the datastore itself I don't think you can. without using SCP (SSH) to the Host machine and connecting the USB passthrough there: http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/220577-copy-file-from-esxi-5x-datastore-to-external-usb Also note SSH is not running by default on ESXI you need to start the service to use SCP.

Way Easier than that. select VM, go to inventory, add device, usb controller. then plug in the USB device, the add USB Device. only getting 3-4 MB a sec though.

 speed has dropped to 800K/s

@Hubtech said: speed has dropped to 800K/s What is the Host's specs? I'm guessing it doesn't have VT-D. Or no VMware Tools
