Although I haven't had the need for a Control Panel on my web servers for quite some time, it's been a few years since I've used Kloxo, but it was decent back then, and is still under development (it looks like)

Just took a quick glance, and Kloxo doesn't support Centos 6 / 7, so it appears to be rather out of date. FWIW, VestaCP does support Centos 6.5 and they are supposed to be working on Centos 7 compatibility.

What advantages are there to using one of these control panels?

Having a look at these and most of the ones I like the look of don't support CentOS 7. What's up with that?

One of the things that I always say about these "extra" interfaces that aren't part of the OS, they struggle to keep up to date and often introduce their own problems. It's similar to FreeNAS. FreeNAS isn't bad, but it isn't as good as straight FreeBSD. The interface introduces problems, the biggest ones are a lack of flexibility and a delay, sometimes a massive one, from being able to get current patches and updates.

Righto, well I'll strike control panel off the list of things to look at.

LOL. They have a place, like in shared services where that is the only thing exposed. It can make sense. But for running stuff on your own, I find that they get in the way and make things hard and slow. And it is an extra thing to patch and secure. Running a LAMP server is so easy without a panel. Easier than a service with a panel, I swear.
