50$ isn't a bad deal. 100$ for this and the controller. May be worth it to have some FPS games I can play on my TV.

That's what I was thinking. A simple device that lets me stream to my television, I'm sold. This makes a serious gaming PC a no-brainer.

Interesting. I'm curious how it works and if the traffic from the computer to the steam link stays local or not.

They currently have a version of this setup with their official client. You can stream from a Windows machine to a Linux/Mac/Windows machine on the same network. I haven't done any packet sniffing but I'm not entirely sure what traffic would leave the network.

Yeah I would hope not. I would assume it's basically a network/software based kvm that only works inside of steam but I have no idea.

Yeah, a Steam KVM is a good way to think of it.

This would be handy for setups where hooking up your gaming rig to the TV is not a permanent situation. Neat.

It would be awesome if these things supported chrome cast or similar as well for watching movies and such.

I've very hopeful that they figure out how to stream movies over this.

That's a great idea. Cheap enough that I can imagine lots and lots of people deciding to invest in one of those.
