So My DroboCare Expired...
-
I'm not sure how I let this happen, but with a call to Drobo tech support yesterday, I found out the Drobocare on our B800i that we use as a Veeam backup target expired several months ago. We have had the unit for 2-3 years, but the price to renew when out of warranty is over $1K for one year. Ouch.
So, is it really worth it to renew? If the device itself fails it looks like I can get another for just over $1K. The problem would be that it happens to be our only storage device at command central outside of the ESXi hosts' local storage.
What would you do?

beg and plead with drobo for a renewal rate and not a re-up rate

So in other words...please take $800 off this price! I'm sure that will go over well.

If the cost to support ~ the cost to replace, then just prepare the budget for replacement and wait it out with the purchase order ready to go. In the long run this might save money.

new equip. yep, i'd go that route. and hrm...set a reminder

And you might decide that the B800i isn't the right choice at replacement time. By saving the money now you get more flexibility.

see, you did yourself a favor!

Only $1,099 new from Amazon (have it next day!) Probably better support than what you would pay a grand for anyway!
