Comparing VPS Providers

What do you think? What other providers should I add?
-
We don't consider Amazon to be a VPS provider. They do cloud IaaS only. Most people look at VPS as what DO and Vultr do that Amazon does not. Partially this is just semantics, but you need to define what you are looking for.
If you are going to include players like Amazon, Azure and Softlayer (IBM) you should include factors like "console access".
-
@scottalanmiller Yeah, I am not sure how big I want to make this. I think I want to stick to pure VPS providers for now.
Who else should I add that is purely VPS?

Then no Amazon.

I only deal with RS, DO and Vultr so not sure.
-
@scottalanmiller I guess it really comes down to 2 providers.....
RackSpace is super expensive by the way

They also do a lot that the others do not. Load balancers, custom firewalls, database hosting, CDN, etc.

Don't you pay for all of that? I wanted to have 1 server on RS, and they wanted $100/month...

Which is SO weird because we have single servers there that are $15.

Yes but being ABLE to pay for things is a pretty big deal compared to not being able to get them at all.
-
@scottalanmiller your grandfathered in..... I asked about you over there

LOL. But that's on new ones. I can spin it up right now.
I see a $50 minimum on "managed service accounts", but only $50, not $100.
-
@scottalanmiller you have to add on the cost of the VM too

If it's $50 + VM (which is so weird) it's still only $65.

Linode is who we were forgetting. Gotta test them out, too.

Going to update this for Amazon Lightsail, and make any needed changes.
