If the box is up, RAID is fixed. It's already tested. RAID cannot impact services. Either the system works or it doesn't, it is black and white.

I cant understand scott
Where did I say that?
I think he meant he doesn't understand what you're talking about or is confused. As are we.
I got that part, AJ, where did I say the thing that is confusing?
-
@thanksajdotcom said:
Agreed. Especially in a RAID1.
No, not especially in RAID 1. Equally in all RAID except RAID 0. Completely equal.

That's what I'm saying. I'm confused by what he's saying he's trying to accomplish versus what he's doing.
He is trying to satisfy irrational and illogical rants of a non-technical manager who has no idea what he is asking for. The "goal" here, is not to do something that works, but to provide feedback that makes no sense. We have to accept that his manager, not him, is creating impossible and senseless requirements and putting clients at risk. The manager doesn't know what RAID is and is refusing to learn about IT basics but also refusing to let the tech do his job.
So this is where he is, trying to figure out how to satisfy the manager who is asking for things that are impossible.
Sounds like it's time for a new job...

@scottalanmiller RAID is fixed without any issues. But I having the doubt if I change new motherboard for this RAID hard disk whether any data loss may occur or not?Whether any issue will take place while canging new motherboard.I have connected the hrd disk at G31T motherboard. But I need to access the data after changing the two hard disk in Q45 motherboard.Whether this is possible without any data loss?
This is software raid correct? What possible effect could the motherboard swap have? Even if it was hardware the raid controller is generally a daughter card.
-
@thanksajdotcom It is software RAID 1 at Centos

Why are you swapping the motherboard, then?

is the logical drive mounted? do you see any files? if so then it is likely fine.
-
@scottalanmiller Motherboard was not working so the company is going to buy new motherboard for this RAID1 devices
-
@thecreativeone91 Yes I saw the logical drives and it was working.Whether i need to use Samba server?

How will accessing via SMB change anything. It's just another method of accessing files. It can only share what the OS has access to already.
-
@thecreativeone91 By this method there will not come any issues.Right
-
If it's software RAID, it should be fine to move motherboards, but again, why?

So what's the purpose of the SMB shares?

In what way was it not working? When you say things like "new motherboard for this RAID 1 devices" we assume that you are confused and getting the motherboard for the wrong reasons because there is no connection between the motherboard and the RAID. That statements leads us to believe that you are buying a motherboard because you think it will affect the RAID, which it will not.

Whether you need to use it for what? To check RAID, absolutely not. Samba will work whether RAID does or not.
-
Also, I'm confused at how the RAID rebuilt if the motherboard is failed and they haven't replaced it. What are these hard drives currently running on?
-
@scottalanmiller Yes I understood the situation and I have already finished checking this motherboard also. But I have faced some issue in rebuilding the RAID at HP server which was already discussed by us.So my Senior engineer was so scared about the RAID 1 and he said me to check these kind of issues.

@scottalanmiller, is it just me or does it sound like his senior engineer is completely clueless?

Ah. So the motherboard is already been replace but someone else is worried about the RAID not working properly after the replacement?
