Target Knew About Data Breach Longer Than Stated

I really don't shop Target that much but this is pretty disturbing that we have either fellow IT pros's who are incapable of doing the ethical thing or that CIO/CEO's at some of these large companies are really that slimy.

The public outcry seems to be a little lax. Switch Target with Wal-Mart and there would be riots.

This type of internal process failure is common and not surprising.
I also don't expect the general public to truly understand or care about the hows and whys only that they had to get a new card and deal with the hassles associated with it.

I'd be willing to bet they ignored the warning because it came from their outsourced Bangalore office. Equal parts racism and disdain for outsourcers.

This right here... Most people will see the letters and news and will actually only be upset when they have to go and change all their automated billing and saved CC information on shopping websites.

@Bill-Kindle Not so much apathy as the impacted people have little clue where to go and how to resolve. Seems you can get one "cause" per year with Syria, North Korea, MH370, "the economy", and other issues...not much remaining bandwidth for outrage.
Security != convenience, else people would've jumped en mass to MSFT's own EMET ages ago—
