Veeam Licenses Quandry

30 days until renewal.
We have a mix of Sockets and Instances.
My gut says we just Keep a small amount of sockets since they are cheaper. I am thinking Instances would be better since the agent is portable. We are moving Datacenters coming up and I am not wanting to stick with HyperV. The 1.5 Licenses per server kinda sucks though.
Plus counting on HyperV to do our backups have been meh.Sockets or Instances?

If you aren't sticking with Hyper-V, what are you considering? ESXi, KVM, XCP-ng, Scale? This could have an impact if you need Veeam at all.

Yeah, this question should be addressed first. Could be moot if you move to something else. Even if you decide to use Veeam agents to backup. Totally different.

I understand that the Universal License (VUL) was made available this month: https://www.veeam.com/blog/introducing-new-universal-license.html
And Veeam told partners that all new subscriptions will use VUL. The server for Enterprise still is 1.5 licenses and 1 for Enterprise Plus. VM's are 1 licence each.
They say the price will be better for some workloads . Use the calculator to check.

On a second look, it seems like 1 server agent is 1 license under VUL. Better check the calculator.
The new Starter Edition available under VUL might be interesting if your work load is 20 or less and Standard Edition works for you. -
Oh wow, calculating the jobs for Agents vs Sockets. My CIO would ask me if I would like to keep my job.
Nevermind, nothing to see here... -
@Texkonc
Understood. At least you know that some instances are no longer available. -

I'm lost here. Why are you taking about Agent Jobs?

Scale is on the list for sure.
