Intel finds critical holes in secret Management Engine hidden in tons of desktop, server chipsets

@dbeato yeah! they used a forked version of minix! best in breed for security auditing

This REALLY shows why Intel doesn't know what they are doing or take security seriously. Putting a product that they trust so little that they are ashamed to disclose anything about it at the core of controlling their CPUs is just incompetent. It's widely been known to be a backdoor, this clinches that.

If you see the link, it links also to Lenovo support for not real reason that I can see.

jebus... is Intel that incompetent, or are they just in bed with the likes of the CIA and don't give a shit about users?

Isnt this 10s of millions of computers affected? I think just about every single pc and server on my network is on this list:
6th, 7th and 8th Generation Intel Core processors Intel Xeon E3-1200 v5 and v6 processors Intel Xeon Scalable processors Intel Xeon W processors Intel Atom C3000 processors Apollo Lake Intel Atom E3900 series Apollo Lake Intel Pentiums Celeron N and J series processors
-
Yeah, this is nearly everyone affected. Thank goodness for AMD and ARM.

AMD isn’t much better. They have PSP which is just as dangerous.

Yes, that is correct.

This is ARM's time to make a bold move to capture a good part of the x86 server market.

No bold move needed, just need people to start selling ARM desktops!!

I was thinking more bold business moves. There are things they could do that would really help make that happen. It would take their leadership to act boldly and take risk.

The ARM powered Chromebooks will take over... well, if I have my way anyway.

For sure. We need slightly higher powered hardware that is similar for Linux desktops, too.

huh, I think that means less than half my machines are on that list.

Yeah, for some reason, I don't think we need those 64 core CPUs for a desktop!
