macOS 10.13 High Sierra Coming with APFS Filesystem

Isn't the file system change dependent on whether or not you install the OS on an SSD?
-
@scottalanmiller I haven't been working on anything big in the last couple days. I also updated to VMWare Fusion 10 Pro from 8. It has made my dev VM's noticeably more snappy. I'm not 100% sure if that is the file system, VMWare's hardware changes, or spooky magic, but I'll take it.
On another note why is everyone now Skipping version 9? iPhone 8 >iPhone X (10), VMWare Fusion 8 > 10, Windows 8.1 > 10... What is going on?

Late 2013 Macbook Pro with a 1 TB SSD here, installed filesystem on update by default.

Californians can't count?

@rojoloco Yes, it is dependant of your drive being SSD. If you want to avoid it, you create a backup and upgrade using a HDD. Then clone the HDD to a SSD drive.

My concern is with what it will break. Each macOS release has broken something for us, and some of them go into the "just live with it" category because Apple appears to be completely unresponsive to their power user community.
Like how they broke SMB and AFP protocols and just ignore it?
I have had issues with this for years, here.

Well sure, if you want a FIX rather than a bandaid.

As soon as I can have a POSIX native environment with Microsoft Office I will be. I'm really, really hoping for Office for Linux to come out soon.

I find there is nothing on the IT side that requires me to use MS Office docs of any sort.

We are a US federal government contractor. If there is even a hiccup in a process we get push back. So far the pain of using Mac/MS Office has been high enough to warrant the frustrations with customers.

To be fair, Mac is pretty bad for that kind of thing. Same issue here, even a tiny logistics company and while nearly everyone can use Linux (and does), the people doing the docs can't even use Mac.

So for those using APFS, how is it looking now that you've had a few weeks with it?

Nothing noticeably different.
