What are you listening to? What would you recommend?

I find people live or die by music. There has been music throughout history that has impacted a generation, a genre, a person. I'd like to focus on that last one. There have been a few songs that have had significant impact on me personally. As far as the rest, they are just songs I greatly enjoy.

My most recent one is this:

A song that had a significant impact on some events in my life:

This was a turning point in my music tastes. It allowed me to transition into metal, hard rock, and helped broaden my horizons musically. Until that point I was very locked into what I had heard with my father and what I was allowed to listen to. This changed all that. I liked this song when it was just barely released. It was added to Guitar Hero several years later. At that point, it got big but much like anyone who likes underground bands, the real fans like it before it was popular.

Live or die, hmmmm... I guess many people around me would qualify for that, but I don't find myself in that camp. I had tape/dat/cd and mp3 players like everyone else, but since around the late 90's music hasn't been that important to me. These days I listen to podcasts when I remember to bring them with me. I only listen to the radio in my car, otherwise I almost never put music on.
This isn't to say that I don't like music. I do. I just don't feel the draw to go in search of new tunes or even enough of a draw to buy (or otherwise acquire) music that I hear incidentally that I do like.FYI, nice picks, I like them all too.

@Dashrender We are very much opposites in that way. Ask @fiyafly and I anytime about our music collections. He uses Google Music. I host all mine locally or use Pandora. Either way, I hate it being too quiet MOST of the time and need music on. It's a part of who I am. I can probably sing hundreds of songs from memory with music and a good number even without. If I know a song, I usually know it within the first three notes. Even if I can't think of the name of it immediately, I pretty much know that I know it off-hand, at least.
-
I'm horrible with names, but I'd say of the types I listen to I'm in the same boat, I know most them within 3-5 notes. I've noticed a lot of music on the radio now have borrowed the same opening notes of songs I know from the 80's and 90's. Sometimes this frustrates me, I'm expecting to hear a song I really enjoy, then I'm disappointed when I realize it's the new one.

Haven't really listened to Beyonce before because first time I really heard anything by her it was about booty and not beautiful music. Well, she's actually an INCREDIBLE singer. What I'm listening to right now:

The other song I discovered by her last night that blew me away.

@minion-queen I know Beyonce isn't your normal style (from what I know of you) but listen to that second one. I think you'll like it.

For the classic rock and Spongebob fans out there, you'll love and recognize this.

Here's some real music for y'alls. It's the best American metal band (from Texas, in fact) covering the best from the UK. Doesn't get any better than that!

Lately at work, I've been putting on Pandora. Currently the band (and associated type of music) that I've been listening to is Tesla. Which has had a lot of Guns N' Roses, some Foreigner, Whitesnake, etc.

@Bud Very nice. Love Pandora personally.
