Yahoo 'secretly scanned emails for US authorities'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-37551415Snowden says to close Yahoo accounts immediately.
-
I'm really happy I've never had a yahoo account in my life rn.
-
And who exactly is still using Yahoo?
-
I still have an (unused) account with them. Hope they were able to siphon off some significant info from the plethora of spam it contains.
-
-
Yahoo was my first email account, circa 1997. I haven't used it for at least 15 years. I don't even know if it would still be around.
-
I guess this is why you should run your own mail server. Not the end all, be all, but you can also refuse to send mail to these "free" mail service domains.
-
My mom uses Yahoo.
The reality though.. this is probably happening on some level with every single US based provider.

THe difference is either that Yahoo got caught or, as the articles suggest, that they happily cooperated and put in a lot of effort to aid in the process.

Not like they could. It's like Apple doesnt run on Apple....because they don't make servers so they can't.
Now what was shocking was that IBM didn't run on IBM.

Yahoo adding insult to stupidity: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-yahoo-emailforward-idUSKCN12A22Q
Yahoo Inc disabled automatic email forwarding at the beginning of the month, the Associated Press reported, citing several users.
While those who have set up forwarding in the past are unaffected, users who would want to leave following recent hacking and surveillance revelations are struggling to shift to rival services, the AP reported on Monday. Oh wow, they are getting desperate.
-
@nadnerB that's really the only way that they are going to get anyone to stick with them.
-
Well you're not really safe if your email is still routing through Yahoo.
-
Can't gmail act like a Pop3 client and go get the mail? So this really doesn't keep people from using another service like gmail.
