An effort to setup SharePoint 2013 farm with streamlined topology
-
Thanks, wmf1 to wfm1 please
The server names are required as is when i run the scripted installation for sharepoint. not that wmf1 won't work but just wanted to keep it standard.

Ok, starting with zero tier configuration. Quick questions to the Zero tier experts here:
I think i need to create a network on my zero tier login and install the clinet on all the servers, so that i can RDP directly to any server from my machine after connecting to the zero tier network. Is this the right way of doing it? Does AD integration in any way required?
All what i need is to have my local machine connected to this servers (RDP & later on web for SP), so i believe just installing ZT client on all servers and on my machine, logging is enough. I can connect to the internal IPs from there i believe

Installed ZT on my machine and the SP servers, assigned IP from ZT and able to RDP to it now. First thing, installed bginfo and set the background

Thinking about the AD setup. Even though this won't be used for any public access, i still want to do it the right way if i were on production.
Thinking of naming the servers just as AD, DB1, DB2, WFE1, WFE2, SCH1, SCH2, BP1, WFM1 and keep the AD FQDN as sp.ambarishrh.com
so server would be named for eg: ad.sp.ambarishrh.com, wfe1.sp.ambarishrh.com
Suggestions please

Thanks @scottalanmiller need the shared drive between db1 and db2 for clustering. What kind of storage do we have to do this?

There isn't a native offering for this on Scale HC3 because it is designed for production use and that is essentially a lab feature. So I have them looking into if we can get that exposed to us to enable.

Can we use something like starwind (i never tried this and so not have much info about it, but just a thought)

Any SAN will work. iSCSI is iSCSI.

Yeah, OP can ping me off-line for a custom NFR if he runs out of Mango points. We'd be happy to help!

I love seeing the Vendors @scale & @StarWind_Software jump in and help someone with their lab!

Good excuse to build out a SAN.

Just wanted to check if we have any option now for the shared storage

@Ambarishrh Scale can't do it directly. I've been talking to engineering about what is needed to expose this functionally because even their support team can't do it. There is code to protect the block devices that fences this currently.

I'm building out a Starwind SAN for this. It's partially done. But I've been traveling.
