Do you use ACLs on your Linux Server?
-
I haven't needed to yet, but I was wondering if anyone else has needed to?
-
I never do but plan to for a lab project very soon.
-
I've been wondering about it because it kind of seems like extra work that might not be needed.
I've been able to accomplish everything with normal users/groups and setuid/setgid and sticky bit. -
Depends if you are doing department level security or user level.

Couldn't you just use groups for that? Maybe I'm being ignorant.

You could, but it would require making lots and lots of shares potentially. As opposed to one or two shares with granular permissions.

Ah ok, makes sense.
