I dont have a phone app

      You do....

@WrCombs said in Frist time Headset ?:

I'll just use zendesk phone once i get access is my thought process.

zendesk phone come from zendesk, its a feature of the ticketing system , no special application needed.

but wouldn't i have to answer at my desk anyway ?

Depends on the phone app and the headset. I prefer something where the button on the headset can at least pickup and hang up.

We can set it up to go to our phones, but I'm not putting call forwarding to my cell phone - I'll just use zendesk phone once i get access is my thought process.
I wont be using a headset for cell phone.

Nothing I said referenced your cell phone.

      Example:
The Sangoma Phone desktop app on my Mac does not work with the hangup command (double tap) on my Indy Fuel earbuds. But the SangomaConnect app on my mobile phone does work correctly.

Now likely the problem is the the earbuds don't do ANYTHING on the Mac, as they were likely never designed for it. But the do volume control, pickup, and hangup just fine on the iPhone.

I dont have a phone app - but if I did, it would go where? my cell phone - so indirectly you did.

probably - wont be taking the headset to get coffee or go to the restroom.

Meh, I don't bother to take it off for a trip to those locations.. The former, I continue to talk. The latter, not so much. Don't answer there either..

Good things to think about ; using this to track some ideas

@Pete-S said in Frist time Headset ?:

What's the environment like where you are sitting?

Working from home so household noise as well as kid being home during shifts etc. so noise cancelling will be nice.

Do you need to hear people around you?

on occasion - with the kid home, yes. but not necessarily important.

Do you need to be able to move around while on a call?
no, should be okay without moving around while on calls.
Are you going to take calls when you're out and about (not at your desk)?

no softphone through zendesk , wont be taking the calls with me

How many hours per day are you going to use it?

      7-8 off and on

Do you going to take it on and off many times per day?

probably - wont be taking the headset to get coffee or go to the restroom.

Are you going to use it for taking helpdesk calls or other things as well?

Helpdesk and meetings mostly - thankfully I wont be answering calls direct unless they are transferred to me.

If I need Bluetooth, I just use Tozo earbuds from Amazon. Cheap and work really well. For my work headset, whatever cheap Logitech we get at the local store. I keep it simple.

I would prefer wired , but I've been looking a little bit and might have a couple I'm looking more closely at

@WrCombs I would look for 2 units if you are on calls for most of the day.

Get one over the ear cup style headset and one earbud style.

I cannot wear the same headset for more than 3-4 hours and still be comfortable. No matter how good the headset is.

Since you are using it with a soft phone on a computer, there are millions of models of BT headsets out there.

Jabra, Sennheiser, and Bose are shortlist.
Poly has fallen off the boat IMO.

I didn't even think about that - appreciate the heads up

    • Frist time Headset ?

New job is looking better and better, one thing I'm looking to do to help out with that is getting a head set - Company has said if we need equipment we can reach out; what is everyone using for a headset?

We use Zendesk with calls from our computer so it would need to connect that way- let me know what other information you need - right now i'm using turtle beach from my PS4 ... lol

setting up the laptop (coming to you live from now)

Work laptop is work. Until you been through HR and know 100% all company policy, you should not be doing dick on it.

where did you get "work laptop" from? I never said it was the work laptop- I said "the Laptop"

got the lighting figured out, going to be running with less lights than one would think, but it looks okay for me.
no glares in the camera, etc.

when needed I can turn on extra lamps and stuff.

Playing with the microphone/camera and related settings - lots of background noise i'm trying to see if it's going to be a problem

What camera/mic? Internal to the new laptop?

Check the mic boost levels….. what noise is it picking up.

Yea, think I finally got it figured out, but I'm doing laundry and my "office" is in the basement in the space across from the washer and dryer - and it was a lot of static -

      Gotcha -
My home office is five feet from the HVAC and hot water tank... so I understand background noise. With a dual ear headset it was never an issue.. but NTG didn't do all that many video calls either. Now the State and the clinic - they are all about that fool camera...

the HVAC is on the other side of the wall - I can hear it but did a test Video call with the girlfried and she couldn't hear that

lighting is the next big thing
