I could split them. I'd rather capitalize on the cable management systems of the stand up racks though. I haven't seen any actual cable management systems in any of these so far

That's what I do. A quarter rack for network equipment and cables up on the wall. Floor standing quarter or half rack for heavy stuff like servers.

Have you ever posted what you have going on at casa de scott? I'd be curious to see it

This whole thing seems weird... why is this out in the living space and not in a closet? Even if you had to build a closet in that corner of the room, to me that would be the best look.

I think you're forgetting that time that my fiance refused to move a power outlet that costed us $100 because, and I quote, "we are not millionaires" when I said we would eventually mount a TV on the wall.

      This is my life:

      tv.jpg

Note: She now has to pay a lot more to have it moved and I'm not paying a cent 😉

The main thing here for me is cable management options. As you guys can see in the rack I built for my previous job, that has a lot of cable management on it. The end result was extremely organized.

A rack on wheels will do the exact same thing - except not be so messy.

Here's one I did for a previous company. This is going on carpet so Idk if wheels are the right call

I thought APC immediately. Good stuff!

Not really a rack for servers though. What did you plan to put in it?

I have one server for my home lab, a 48 port uniquiti edgeswitch, er4, two patch panels, etc etc. Nothing crazy.

The problem with your current rack and the APC rack is that you need space around it so you can access it. When you have something on wheels you can roll it into the corner.

Do you have cat6 wiring on the wall? How many outlets?

yes my entire house is cat6. I have around 20 outlets with multiple ports active depending on where it is

So with a 24 port switch you can hook up all outlets?

no every outlet has 2 ethernet ports, so that's 40+. Then I have 2 access points and 3 security cameras. I will expand my security system in the future too.

So, as many of you know we have moved into our new home. The construction was completed in June. When we moved, a lot of stuff was pure chaos and organization kind of went out the window. This unfortunately includes my switch rack as you can see below. @BRRABill was kind enough to give me an old rack his company was getting rid of (Thanks Bill!) and it's served me well up until now. I've gotten to the point where I've taken care of mostly everything else and now I want to replace my rack with something that has a lot of cable management options and looks aesthetically pleasing.

Pics of what I have now:

      zFiOxoH.jpg

This was put together pretty quickly so pardon how gross it looks. That's why I want to fix it.

love that show, I got through the 3rd season ( I think) and started watching Magician's again to catch up to Season 5.

Ozark is really well written. I tried very hard to like Magicians, but I just couldn't.

I think this moment was what turned me off: https://twitter.com/MagiciansSYFY/status/712091341984022530

I laughed my ass off when I watched that episode.
I really like it though. Mystical and Dark Humor mixed together.

I'm laughing at this gif right now. The look he gives the camera, like he's sad he has to bang a hot girl and actually perform well. Priceless

@Dashrender @Pete-S I've considered all of this. The reason I want an electrician to move the power outlet/ethernet is because it's an external wall and if I need to replace cables here and there (replacing the roku, tv, or other) I am worried I will rip up my insulation and a true conduit isn't to code in NJ. If I have him move the ethernet and power then there is no problem.

Nah that wouldn't be a real issue, just use a fish to feed the cable down, clean and simple.

I wouldn't do it. If you want something else on that wall down the line, the outlets will be in the way.

Have some nice cable management installed instead. You can have it painted as well.

      alt text

That's ugly as all sin, and removing the cable after the fact and doing a drywall patch is stupidly simpl

With the cable molding option as well you'll need longer than the cables that are provided with the TV in almost every case.

Not a huge issue, just a headache. A drywall saw is ~$4 plus the power cable for maybe $15 for 25 feet.

I'm with Wire - it's definitely not a clean... I just installed a new power plug myself behind my TV... though not an outside wall, not that that should be that big of a deal...

The one thing I can say is I think this may actually be a blessing in disguise. After measuring I realized that it was very likely they would've put the outlet exactly where I wanted to mount the TV. It covers a reasonably big area directly in the center of the wall. I have an electrician coming to give me an estimate for my islands pendant light power and I'm going to ask him about it.

This is the one I think we are going with if anyone's interested: https://www.wayfair.com/lighting/pdp/mercer41-chingford-5-light-kitchen-island-linear-pendant-w001859257.html
