Finally got a sysop helper, just dropped him off to do the paperwork after the tour. Brian can start to sleep better in a few weeks.

@scotth said in What Are You Doing Right Now:

Site 1 - Run new wire for payphone
Site 2 - Add extended monitor on camera system to new POS counter
Site 3 - Meet contractor to spin up new DEF dispenser
None of these tasks are overwhelming. Just takes up the whole day.

PayPhone? really? Did we time travel back to the early 90's?

    • DHCP the servers

So this has been a hot topic here.
They static the DC's, but every member server and workstation is dynamic. Servers they use a DHCP reservation.
To me, what is the point of using DHCP for servers if you are going to use reservations? I understand that DHCP and DNS were designed to work nicely with each other and it makes for a common place to look for a server.
But to me it is just still too silly. I am in the Static servers and network, and leave them out of the DHCP range. Ideally, on different networks, but some SMB's it is a battle to have L3 vlans.
Technically it is not 100% wrong, using DHCP and DNS for what it was designed for.
So we have two Sr. Systems Admins that are trained differently.
So what does everyone else think? Who is the more crazy one?

Just curious, how long does it take your Exchange to start serving mail when you restart it for updates/changes/etc?

My guess, about 45mins after the windows login 🙂

Some, not Enterprise, will allow for drop off at different airports. Just have to ask before booking cars.

    • Exchange Mailbox DB migration Cleanup

I have been working on moving mailboxes from a singular DB to multiple DB's.
Multiple different reasons, faster restores for VIP people, different limits etc....
Currently everyone was in one, single large drive, etc...
We had the 365 convo already, so please don't ask..

      so......
I have got all the user mailboxes moved, moved the Arbitration mailboxes and other systems mailboxes I can see.
I have run the disabled mailboxes cleanup, and the soft delete cleanup.
Before I dismount the original DB and see what breaks, what other gotcha's should I look out for?

      Calling all exchange guru's!!

    • RE: Random Thread - Anything Goes

Since I put in my notice they are demanding all KB's are up to date that are in my head. They are, I build one when there is something new going on.

They come back and say that screenshot are required in EVERY one or they are not complete KB's.

Engineering KB's never have all screen shots, so it is not needed.

They came back and said it's a requirement. Ok. Show me the requirement.
Now I have spend time editing every KB's.
