Configured the GPO is with appropriate permission to the RemoteRegistry service and now all working prefect

Not sure, but I think if we modification the script inside /etc/init.d/openfire file it may work.

I have tried to replace the openfire file with openfire 4.1 version under /etc/init.d, now the pid error is not there and starting the service but after 3-4 sec its Shutting down openfire

@sreekumarpg said in Microsoft SQL Backup Solution:

      Hello All,

I would like to get the suggestion on SQL backup Solution. Currently our environment is have two node SQL cluster with around 16 TB of Data. We are using Rapid Recovery as the Backup solution. We have upgraded our Windows Cluster to 2012 with Clustered Share Volume and the SQL Cluster to 2014.

Now we are facing issue with Rapid Recovery as its not able to understand the clustered share volume and we are not able to take the backup of our SQL storage on Block level. As per Rapid Recovery, they are not sure when they will release a version which support CSV.

We are in a situation to look into another SQL backup Solutions. Currently I am testing the Unitrends backup Virtual appliance and Its is good in backup, but I am having some issues on the retention polices as they provide only minimal policy which is on the SQL instance level.

Kindly suggest me a good backup solution for the SQL database which is having application native backup agent or CSV support , rather than block level backup. Also with the backup policy and retention policy of

Backup : - Daily Incremental and Monthly Full backup
Retention : - 2 Week incremental and Last month Full backup.

      Backup : Every 6 Month
      Retention : Last 6th Month

      Backup : Every Year
      Retention : Last 2 year.

If this can be achieved in Unitrends please share the details.

      Thanks in Advance.

      Veeam

@sreekumarpg said in SQL Multi Site Failover High Availability Suggestions:

Thanks All for the valid comments.

Management is looking for a low cost solution , Currently we are having a two Physical Windows Server 2012 R2 standard Cluster with Microsoft SQL 2014 standard edition. Storage is Dell compellent. This setup is done in Datacenter A and In datacenter B we are having two Physical Windows Server 2012 R2 standard Cluster with Microsoft SQL 2014 standard edition and storage is Dell equallogic.

Now the application is configured to send data to both SQL cluster and in outage or maintenance we are reconnecting all services to Datacenter B.

Requirement is to reduce the manual process and only doing a DNS change or Load balance change should move service from Datacenter A to Datacenter B and SQL data should be the same. SQL alwayson seems to be the exact solution but not in budget.

So why are you even worrying about this any more. Management said it's to expensive, so you or your boss should tell them to stand by that decision.

Edit: Easier said than done I know, but the decision is out of your hands.

You will need 4 licensing models for a typical mixed environment:

Free - VEB (because a lot of people do tend to use it with servers, although that's not what it was designed for, and you shouldn't)
Paid - B&R (for hypervisors - enterprises typically need this in a standard mixed environment)
Paid - Veeam Agent for Linux (needed for physical Linux servers that are not hypervisors)
Paid - Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows (needed for physical windows servers that are not hypervisors)

You, Sir, are making wrong statements 🙂

1.B&R - offers a Free version that lets you backup VMs.
2.Veeam Agent for Linux - has fully functional free version
3.Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows - not even released yet and will offer free version as well.

Okay... so then you'll be stuck with 4 separate free products... my point still remains the same. I think like 99% of all backup solutions have a free version. But at least with Unitrends (and many others), you'd only need a single free product. With Veeam, you'd need maybe 4 separate ones. Whether it's free or paid wasn't the point.

As a Veeam user, you may be right in that they are 4 different products. However, the VEB and agents all integrate with B&R. There is a caveat to this. You can monitor the VEB's in B&R, but cannot make any changes to the settings themselves. All you can do to the VEB's is just restrict who can make backups and who doesn't. You won't be able to make changes to frequency or times, etc.

Hopefully @Minion-Queen doesn't look at my resume and see all the Domino experience.....

I already knew that 😛 Your safe.

@Dashrender There is some licensing requirement but I don't remember if it is the Microsoft CAL or if a separate license is required by Polycom for the phone itself. If I get a chance today I'll look it up.

@larsen161 Agreed. You might also want to configure S3 to move the data to Glacier after xx number of days and automate the procedure. Not sure if you need access to the data after it's been backed up, but adding replication to another AZ might be worth looking into as well.

that we can't get from Veeam free 🙂

The Veeam free products don't offer that, but their paid versions do.

They have a paid version of their desktop backup tool?

No, but if you have a paid Veeam solution and point Endpoint Backup at it you can see status there as well as get email notifications.

Ah, good to know. What not aware of any integration.

They might now, but back when we were using Rackspace Email (which was excellent) it did not, so you had two completely independent pools of users. All that they could do was email each other.
