    • Offsite Backup Solution Needed

      Hey guys.

Hoping someone might have some good suggestions for me.

We are trying to do an offsite backup, we got a dedicated 5/5 line (ya we know not the best line)

I've tried Veeam but the snapshots killed us (literally crashed a server) we use Symantec Backup on site, doesnt seem to be able to handle doing it offsite though.

Any suggestions for something more specifically for long slow transfers, maybe something that caches (where I decide) and not a snapshot

      Thanks

      EDIT:
Backing up 5 hosts with a bunch of VM's (VMWare)
Backing up to one of our store locations

    • Getting started with Docker

      Hey all.

So I'm currently looking at installing Docker and I thought I would touch base to see some of the do's and dont's.

I'm obviously googling and reading but I always enjoy some opinions from here.

My first question however is though when I creater docker on Ubuntu do I need to start my Ubuntu server with all the required resources or can I add later? (Virtual on XenServer)

      Thanks

    • Best way to automate an email sending with macros

      Hey guys.

We need to automate the running of macros and sending of an email every day (if outlook is open or not) what would be the best way to go about this?

We just started doing this about a week ago, for speed we got it up and it runs successfully when outlook is open but we obviously wanna take that out of the loop of things that could go wrong.

I assume my obvious answer is task scheduler with VB scripts?

      Thanks

    • Why does CloudatCost charge in US currency for a Candian Company?

Rumor has it CloudatCost has a good presence here so I thought I would ask the question on why they charge in US currency even though they are a Canadian company? Is it simply because the majority of their business is US citizens?

Really wanna take a dive into the product but the Canadian dollar is so weak right now.
Starting to find some nice coupons floating around but to still add 22% due to the weak dollar sucks. Turns a 50% coupon into a 38% coupon.

    • Linux Domain Controller

      Hey all.

So I purchased a server at CloudatCost yesterday and I want to migrate my home DC (windows based) to a linux based DC (probably Debian) server. This will be my first time setting up a linux DC, is there anything important I need to know other than any random webpage (like this one) http://www.golinuxhub.com/2013/06/samba-41-as-active-directory.html

Can I set it up as the PDC while my windows is still online, de-comissioning the windows one after the fact?

I have multiple things on this domain so I dont want to simply undo everything and start new.

Any advice and tips is greatly appreciated.

      Thanks all.

    • 3D Printers

      Hey guys.

So my wife has started a home cake business instead of returning to work.
So right now my geekyness keeps turning to a 3D printer instead of buying cookie cutters/stencils (some stencils are $200+!) for everything that she would do in bulk.

Looking for all suggestions/ideas I know nothing about them.

Obviously not looking to break the bank, my google/amazon/ebay searches are showing me in the $4-700 range for what look like good ones?

Any real world suggestions from those of you that have them would be awesome.

(Oh and I would definitely use this to play around myself)

P.S. I'm Canadian so all your US pricing adds about 30% to me

      Thanks

Oh thats pretty sweet actually, that actually makes me not want to de-commission my windows based DC if they will actually talk to each other.

I'll look into Pertino right now.

      @MattSpeller

Haha thanks Matt, ya I honestly dont know where she gets it from, just picked up fondant one day and here we are starting a business for her.

As for the 3D printer I was essentially thinking the same thing. I spent 5 minutes on the googlebox the other day and there's 10's of thousands of cookie cutter and airbrush stencils available for free, so mix those with a foodsafe filament and she could have whatever design she wants.
