Are you talking about the world pipe?

Referring to the time and Alaskan Senator explained to the US Congress that "The internet is not a big truck, it isn't just something you put things in" and "It is a series of Tubes, and those tubes can get clogged."

I had an iRobot 400 series, and my mom had a 500 series. The 500 is for sure much nicer than the 400, and I am sure the 800 is great. The biggest thing is maintenance. Make sure you run them on a scheduler daily and the charge base is a must. they work better when just tidying up verses trying to clean a weeks worth of dust on 1 charge. Dump the traps every day so they don't build up. Also, pull the brushes every few weeks especially if anyone has long hair in the home. You will probably have to change the battery after a couple years. It is all worth the effort to have a robot sweep your floors everyday while you are at work.

In other words you do more to keep the irobot running than it takes to just vacuum yourself. haha.

Not at all, It takes less than 2 minutes. People forget about doing it because all the work is done while you are away, then wonder why their $500 investment sucks (pun intended) and they just go back to vacuuming the old fashioned way.

    • RE: Should We Remove Bloatware on Office PCs

I was a small enough shop to get away with it, but my personal answer is yes always. I would always do a reformat and install of the OS from a MSDN copy and use the OEM key from the device. It was extra work, but I was sure when it went out in the field there was nothing I wasn't aware off on the system, it was fresh, clean, and happy. Then I would then add it to the domain, and have all my other setup done by GPO. Yes I have mild OCD, but I didn't have to sorry about troubleshooting odd issues, and extra exposure from bloatware, and less 1 off "snow flake" issues because we didn't have a unified hardware spec.

There has been a bunch of talk around here recently about college choices and how not to treat college. I don't need to tell my story again, but in short I did everything wrong, but it worked out. I treated a 4 year university as a trade school. Now I'm out I am reading in my free time trying to balance out what I missed. I often hear book suggestions for people who want to learn the technical side of IT. What are some book suggestions for tech people in the IT world that may help balance out the liberal arts side of college that I may have missed? Just finished Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and loved it.

That's weird. Was your old one Gravatar?

Looks like my old one was uploaded here. So after the update it started using my Gravatar. I changed my Gravatar image to what I wanted it to be, now it isn't working.

Wow, the term was coined here in Joplin. I remember they were back up and running within 24 hours. Wish I had time to sit in on that talk, but I my old DR plan could cook the bacon. I was less than a mile from that waffle house, and had 0 down time.

I have been supper happy with the a $65 apple TV for this kind of thing. That or a Amazon Fire TV or Fire stick, Chromecast, etc. A whole computer for this kind of thing is overkill.

Not only that, but the interface and low power consumption features of the tiny "dedicated" boxes is so nice. And many have games now (Amazon, latest Apple TV, etc.) which are different from the available PC games that it makes for an interesting addition to the household technology set as well.

I tried the Android TV, and it was awful and I just ended up taking it back to Best Buy. I would for sure suggest the Fire Line. I would have but, having Airplay to the Laptop was needed for our setup.

@Joy you can infuse any vodka with about anything you want too. Just put your vegetables into the bottle or another container and let it sit at least 2 weeks. Last year I took onions, tomato, and hot peppers and made a bloody marry vodka that was awesome. I just used the cheap off brand to start with.

I will take a 7. I grew reapers this year. Made some hot pickles, some spicy peach jam, and tonight going to make me a curry that no one else in house will touch.

I am religious, and these bill boards bug the hell out of me. They are threatening and accomplish absolutely no purpose.

I am a Christian. I can definitely imagine they bug folks who are athiests or non-Christians as well. But for me, they are reminders of what my purpose is on this earth. 🙂 (Aside from exorcising computers).

That's great it's reminding you of your purpose, but should that be done by threatening (real or perceived) the people you are trying to reach.

If your family was in a burning building, and you were the only one aware of the fire, what methods of warning them would you consider "too extreme"? Whether or not you agree with these people's views, understand the urgency, whether perceived or real.

Who hold on... you're comparing our lives to a burning building? That seems extreme!

Unless you think you're making it out of here alive, this life will consume you and you will die. If you (as the people who are bringing you these "threatening" messages) believe in such things as heaven and hell, well, not going to hell might be like getting saved from a fire.

So, if my family is in a burning building, I should get a billboard on the interstate and tell them about it? These billboards are a waste of time and an eye sore. I can't imagine anyone reading that and changing anything about themselves.

I think the idea is that every single life is precious. If your message reaches one single person, what is the value of that? If life is priceless, that's a lot of value.

If the the belief is that strong about life being important, Why not take the money that was spent on a eye sore billboard that could reach one person, and feed the hungry in your community for one day, buy kids a few coats, and a couple sleeping bags for a homeless man. Instead of blasting their opinion on deaf ears while people are driving.
