Where have you been? Symantec spun Veritas out last year. That's why all of the Symantec people that we knew aren't there any longer.

I hear what you are saying. I've never done it, so I'm not sure it can be done. You could setup a mandatory profile that users can't change, but I think that still allows them to save to the desktop as if it was a temporary directory, and upon reboot, the files are gone.

Not a great solution in your situation I'm sure.

I'm afraid that I have no useful feedback. I've never had great luck with McAfee. It's better than some, but not good enough that I would use it. Easier and cheaper than fixing it would be moving to something better like Webroot, IMHO.

That's not true. You either use Downgrade rights from the OEM licesnse or from another package on them machine. You don't get to use downgrade rights from another package then transfer the OEM licesnse to another system.. It doesn't work that way. You can never transfer an OEM license.

You're misunderstanding what I said.

Let's say you have an older Win 2008 OEM server. And you have a brand new 2012 OEM server.

you can use the media and CD key that came with the 2008 OEM to install Windows onto the 2012 OEM server.

Obtaining the software and keys has always been left up to the end user/company to obtain when using downgrade rights of OEM products. Of course VL licenses give the media and keys in the portal, but OEM users don't have access to that.

So if they couldn't use the cd and key from something else they own, how would they be able to install downgrade?

It would have been awesome if MS would have provided a portal to register your OEM licenses and hence allowing the download of a lower level key/media - but they never did this.

Well that's different. That's not the license. That's a key. That's different.

Explore other virtualization platforms such as XenServer, KVM, etc...

It's a very nice accounting system and has unlimited users too, so a big deal for a growing company.

the thing is here my senior did the migration when the operation master did not changed he gave me the responsibility to me to do. As far i searched everyone suggesting to redo the migration activity.

While this is an isolated incident, @jason is right. You are dealing with someone who is missing very basic things. Things that a Windows entry level person would be expected to know. And while it is fine to miss things (maybe Windows isn't his background) he's missing "common use cases" on top of not knowing "standard entry level technology" and then "not understanding how to approach a problem" and using years out of date technology, too.

It's about four big red flags in a single incident. It's a situation where, for your own good, you want to question how good of a manager or mentor this person is for you. Are you likely to learn from them? Or find that they hold you back from learning and growing in your own career.
