@JaredBusch I don't have my Linux machine handy but I beleive in Virt-Manager, not in the VM settings but in Virt-Manager Settings there is a place where you can setup the bridge interfaces.

RE: Looking at Ideas for a Grassless Backyard
If I am not working, or learning something new for work. I don't touch technology. I enjoy working in the yard, remolding my house, etc.

RE: Looking at Ideas for a Grassless Backyard
@JaredBusch More maintenance yes, but I can put up a hedge in my yard cheaper than a fence. I don't need a permit to plant a hedge in my yard....I still like looking at a hedge more than a fence.

RE: Looking at Ideas for a Grassless Backyard
@wirestyle22 I like the industrial look as well. I think you could look at some pre-built sheds and then convert it into the office you want, that would make it easy on you as the base structure would be done once it is in place at your house then all you have to do is decorate it to your tastes. On the outside/inside you could easily add 8 ft Corrugated Galvanized Steel to give it an industrial look For me I would look at one that had a garage door, then put in a windowed clear glass garage door. You can get screens that could come down for the rare occasions the weather is cool enough in Texas. 8 ft. Corrugated Galvanized Steel sheets are extremely cheap and you can put them right onto the side of the shed, inside or out as well. On one of the interior walls you could use a faux brick panel to give the interior an accent wall, http://www.homedepot.com/b/Building-Materials-Siding-Stone-Veneer-Faux-Stone/N-5yc1vZc9sr.
I like this desk myself for the interior. -

Here is the most recent picture of the backyard in Carrollton. This was taken around January when the snow was on the ground.
Why not enclose that porch area as your office. You can put in huge picture windows. I see a lot of fencing. Which I understand is for privacy, if the fencing is yours have you thought about doing a nice tall hedge instead? I am doing a Privet hedge at my house instead of fence. They can get up to 8' tall. I like looking at a hedge more than a fence. Plus it is cheaper.

If you look at the left of the picture there is a folding door that is on a track. I live in St. Louis and we have the same problem during the summer, too humid and too many mosquitoes. However there are about four weeks in the year that you can have the windows open and get fresh air.

I do not believe Ubuntu will go anywhere. It has a strong community behind it. Will things change sure, I do not believe Ubuntu will disappear.

RE: Regulations around Legal/Law industry
I work at a larger law firm. We have about 130 attorneys, plus around 70 support staff, secretaries, etc. Most of the time the regulations we have to deal with come about from our clients. If we have a doctor as a client, and we do. Then we are entangled into HIPPA. If we have financial clients and we do, we then are tied up in their regulations. What everyone said about law firms being insecure is true. It has been a long fought fight for us to drag the firm towards better security practices. In cases we are dealing with, most contain sensitive private information, SSNs and the such so we try to be very secure with them. We have encryption on all of our machines. The data between our computers and document management system is encrypted. We have taken a lot of steps to secure our data. I am sure we have holes, I believe everyone does but we actually pay for a security audit every year. Some of our bigger clients require it. We always complain about the mom and pop law firms. They are very difficult to deal with.

RE: Are Servers on VMs are Safe from Ransomware ?
@scottalanmiller said in Are Servers on VMs are Safe from Ransomware ?:
A chocolate torte can be super delicious, but it isn't a security tool.
<tongue n cheek>If you were physically attacked and the attacker was allergic to chocolate, smashing it into his face could cause an anaphylactic shock thus saving you and thus being a darn good security tool.</tongue n cheek>
That being said the easiest way to think about all of this is that a Virtual Machine is still a machine, right like a physical machine. You need the same protections for a VM that you would have for a physical machine. I think Scott covered the bases well.

Quiet honestly it looks like there is a market for an ISP that will promise not to sell your data.

RE: Frog in the Boiling Water
WOW! This is exactly what has happened to me at my current employer. The working conditions slowly got worse over time and I didn't notice it. Finally I work up and I was like wow. I went from being occasionally called every once in a blue moon to being called every single weekend to help someone do something. I haven't had a weekend off since the weekend of my wedding in January, I can't remember before that how long it had been to have a weekend devoid of work calling me for some reason. Even then I had to put out three emails before my wedding saying I was unavailable that weekend. I am putting in long hours but I fall behind because they refuse to address key issues. So I have put my resume out.
