Some of the WP10 updates broke things. There was one that left me unable to use any Hotmail contacts for about 7 weeks. They disappeared after one update, then a bit later came back wouldn't open and I couldn't use them to text/call/email people. Another seemed to lower battery life to less than a day.
Since late summer though there have been no problems I have noticed.

That doesn't instil faith in their abilities.

He's talking about during the beta. I haven't heard of these issue since the RTM of Windows 10 Mobile.

I would imagine that it has to do with the fact that nobody wanted to use it and nobody knew it existed. I was like, Microsoft Band?

And that people associated with the dead phone platform. We all just assumed that they had died together or that the Band would be crippled on any current phone platform.

I'm not sure why you say people associated it with a dead phone platform, no one even know MS had phone platform.

They did, enough to think that the Band was part of it. And honestly, wasn't it?

All the literature I saw specifically mentioned about how the band worked with iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

Worked with isn't the same as "did everything the same" on all platforms.

      Does anything?

They talked about this in Windows weekly. And Mary Jo Foley (tech writer) said the same thing I did. To her, MS wasnt considering the band linked to Windows Phone.

I don't care if anything else does, nothing else is from Microsoft. That all the features were on a dead useless platform was the concern. I don't care if my Apple Watch only works with iOS because I use iOS. If the Band is for Windows Phone, then it's useless.

      But it's not.
I have the band tied to my Nexus 6P. I get everything I had with Windows phone with the possible exception ( which I just haven't tested) of send SMS from the Band via Android.

That's what I was asking.... does the Band with fully or almost fully with other devices? MS did nothing to assuage fears of that, which likely did a ton to cause the product to fail.

Yes it worked nearly feature complete on all three platforms.
MS never really advertised the Band. It's like it was more of an experiment than a real product launch.
They put no real effort into promoting it.

Like the Phone. Just a failed experiment. It never felt like they were serious about it. That's exactly how it felt when I tried one. It was half finished and half assed and they just seemed to give up.

It was probably that way in Windows Phone 7, but Windows 8 and 8.1 (only versions of the newer OS that I used) seemed pretty complete - though I'll admit I never tried to do VPN on it - I know that was a huge sticking point with version 7, not sure if it still was on version 8?

I used it post 7. It was 8 or 8.1 and just like the desktops that they made in that era, it felt like an internal joke. It was pathetic and the features that they raved about were stupid and things you would want turned off. It was really sad.

other than webroot, who's had more false positives at my one client who uses them than panda that I have been running for 10+ years.

I'm not understanding your statement. This feels like only part of a sentence. Is this a question?

      It's a statement - I'll re-word.

Webroot has had more false positives in the 3 years a client of mine has been using Webroot, than I have had in the 10+ years another client has been using Panda AV.

So while I love Webroot (primarily the journaling), it does require more support than other options I have/do use.

I see, thanks for the clarification. That's not what I had read you to mean at all. That makes more sense.

      Interesting, glad i asked.

It's why we were so excited about Dell going private, they can focus on quality products and long term thinking in a way that almost no one else can. It's why NTG is a private company, answering to shareholders publicly is not just crippling because of stock price manipulation, but it also is very costly. Big public companies spend a fortune placating stockholders, explaining things to them, holding stock holder events, etc. It's a massive cost center with no value (other than investment money) and often many of the executive staff, like the CEO, mainly spend their time working to make them happy rather than running the business!

Maybe it was a few weeks. It was in the news. Czechia had always been used as a short form name, but it was switched to be the official English language name of the country just recently. It was while I was in Romania that they renamed it, I am pretty sure. For some reason it didn't make much news.

      http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/15/europe/czech-republic-name-czechia/index.html

And that article clearly states that they are only seeking to change their short name / familiar name to Czechia in the U.N databases. There is nothing in there about a name change for their formal name. It is still the Czech Republic.

When I had seen it reported before, the mention of only being their shorter name was not mentioned and it was reported as the formal name being changed in English (e.g. they said "Czech Republic changed to Czechia."

I use a variety of boot tools to check hardware (mostly all found on HBCD). Definitely not going to sign them on every incoming PC. I usually just disable SB. šŸ™‚

This is a personal choice - how secure do you want your environment to be? Hiren could definitely sign his CDs and make them compliant with Secure Boot, I'm guessing he just doesn't have people requesting it, and doesn't see the value to cost as worthwhile.

      Just start here.

Then read about how pointless it really is.

I mean, it can't be that bad, right? You can't need a different signing key for every kernel and kernel module! Try again.

Yeah, with the latest Asus no-more-boot thanks to a windows update bug, not even Microsoft can stay compliant with their own system.

I could go on and on with reference pages.
