RE: Gaming - What's everyone playing / hosting / looking to play
D&D type AR battleground where you place the chars in a dungeon, you have your party of heroes you move around, then you battle. Sort of like the hologram chess in Star Wars but with D&D turn based action. Or a menu driven jrpg type battle system.

RE: What Industry Apps Are Awful and You Are Stuck With?
@marcinozga Company i work for just bought GlobalShop. I wasnt consulted about the decision at all, then they asked me to install the server and client. Ive got it working on Server 2012 running on top of Xenserver no problems. That client though, wow. Cant be installed automatically. Needs manual input like a dozen times during the install.
Still, so far is better than what theyve been using for the last 20 years(Excel spreadsheets and Parts&Vendors). -
RE: Non-IT News Thread
@mlnews Same person cooking and doing dishes EVERY DAY is worse. I do agree doing dishes is the worst chore of all time. It is neverending. #2 has to be laundry.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Just got handed about 3 dozen 30 GB ADR cartridges. We apparently had a safe deposit box at the bank for off site backups since early 2000's, and recently closed it. I am supposed to see if i can find old company pictures because the ones that used to be on a network share became unavailable in 2014 after ransomware(i wasnt working here at the time).
Gonna have to scour ebay for an ADR cart device. It is a waste of time and money probably. -
RE: Phyiscal Access Control Systems - Recommendations?
We use Pacom-GMS software with keycards, autolocks. The software runs on a win7 vm.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Just spent a couple hours trying to figure out why i couldnt login to ubuntu gnome desktop or remote desktop to it after upgrading to 17.10.
In the end it was ridiculously simple, and had i remembered that ubuntu used to use upstart it would have taken 30 seconds.
sudo apt purge upstart

RE: Trend Micro OfficeScan Renewal Coming Up - Replacements?
Good points wrx7m
I also have never figured out how to delete deactivated endpoints. They just sit there. It certainly doesnt seem that it can be done from the web console. Also, endpoints will sometimes show up multiple times in the console, one with most recent status update date, others with older 'Last seen' dates.
server1 Today
server1 3 weeks ago
server1 10 days ago
This uses 3 license seats. I just deactivate the ones with old dates to get it back to 1.
For installs i just downloaded the installer they give you(i think it is your license#.exe) and install that, then i log into the console and apply policies to the endpoints. -
RE: Non-IT News Thread
@mlnews said in Non-IT News Thread:
Facebook CEO apparently caught off guard to learn about shadow profiles in front of Congress.
Shadow Profiles of people who arent even registered. Fuck that bullshit.

RE: Gnome 3.26 Released & Linux Kernel 4.14 Upcoming
Lots of good things.
New Realtek wifi driver! Will this be a generic realtek wifi driver that will help with unsupported radios from the last few years?
If only i had Epyc/Ryzen and Vega.
Alas, my 4930k is still overkill 4 years later. Might get a Vega card though if there is a mo'betta version by Christmas.edit: new wifi driver is for newer 8822 radios.

RE: Replacing a UTM in an SMB - With What?
@wrx7m We have a Watchguard XTM 515 here. A bit old but is quite powerful and never uses much of the cpu, even with IPS/Spam/Webblocker/Gateway AV/botnet detection/Reputation features enabled. Still gets software updates often, support is quite helpful.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@jaredbusch Is that considered slow? 40 minutes for 26 miles would be best traffic since the 1990s here.

RE: Should I move to Xenserver 7.2?
The CUs are for customers with support. Those are for long term support. Every three months they will be releasing new CRs which can be for everybody.
Customers without support wont get updates after a new CR is released. They must upgrade to new CR, get updates til new CR, upgrade to new CR, get updates for CR...
A bit like the Win 10 model it seems but with faster cycle of 3 months.
So soon i expect XS 7.3CR, then 7.4CR three months later, less i understand incorrectly. Perhaps different names like 7.2CR1, 7.2CR2 or similar. -
RE: What was your first live concert?
George Clinton and Pfunk All Stars 1998. I was not much into going to concerts, ever, but in freshman year college roommate told me to go with him to this one. I forget who opened for them, obviously.
