RE: Why BitLocker with USB key on a server?
@JaredBusch said in Why BitLocker with USB key on a server?:
Also who the hell updates shit at 3am?
All my clients have backups running at 6-7pm and updates around 9 or 10.
Why the hell wait to find out shit is broke in the morning. No one is left in the office after 7.
Microsoft by default, in the middle of the week as well.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
There was OpenMoko which was promising, but by the time the hw was chosen it was out of date and obsolete.

RE: Korora Desktop Rollcall
@Dominica Yes i agree. Biggest POS hardware ive ever used. Windows didnt even work right, it would freeze, or it would keep the kb disabled after leaving tablet mode, requiring a reboot to get the kb functioning again.
So far the wifi issue was only issue with this for me on Korora. Ill be using the laptop this weekend at my mom's house so I'll see if there are other issues i run into. -
RE: Why QuickBooks Is Not a Business Tool
I work at employer where theyve been using QB since 2002! We are migrating off it end of the year.
The list of Scott's issues with this software is long, and almost complete.
As someone who has to support this, these things make me angry:Each workstation, upon opening the company file, downloads the entire gd company file over the network. Same when closing. And it seems to have a max dl/ul speed of about 20mbps, even on a uncongested gbps network.
The software suite needs to be installed on the server, for some reason. The server cant just hold the data. Here is snip of their OS support page.
WTF? No 2008/2012/2016 support? So most installations (here when i started and other places) use user desktops for the server. Oh, and Server 2011 huh?Updating to a new version will almost break it, requiring a call to their helpdesk, which only operates from 9-5 M-F, unless youre on Enterprise.

RE: Production / Enterprise Level Printing With Multiple Sorter/Mailbox Trays
Is there a way to fix it? Nobody makes printers like that anymore. HPs from that era, including the 42xx series, are absolute beasts.

Blacklist check doesnt check mx records?
A server on our web host and dns host(they also host email, but we dont use them for that) has been put on Barracuda blacklist. Ive told them and they have begun remediation.
My question, why dont blacklist checks check mx records of a domain instead of A records when checking this stuff? Our mx records are totally different than the A record for our website and none of them are listed on a blacklist. However people cant send us email because of this.

RE: Seriously Windows 10, you cant mount Webdav with custom ports ?
@emad-r Many non windows NAS has ability to join Windows domain. Is this NAS part of your Active Directory Users & Computers?
If so
from your workstation
setspn -L nasname.yourdomain.com
This will list some things like
WSMAN/nas
WSMAN/nas.domain.com
find the one that is your webdav service and use that in your net useThere is also this below link which explains what is happening and how to fix it. So you might be able to get this working. It says vista but it still applies to win7, 8, 8.1, 10.

RE: SQL: Query SUSDB for MS17-010
Cant you just use the wsus console to view this information? It will tell you how many computers and which computers need/have a specific update applied.
I suppose you could take that page, find the query it uses and copy it.
Or just use the console. -

You mean a FB glove that harvests your biometric data and then FB sells that data to parasites that use it to brainwash you and your friends.

RE: PORT - Rant about unsupported OS connecting to company VPN
Pretty standard to block things with NPS that dont meet minimum standards.
Other jobs used to block xp machines from connecting to the vpn after 2009. Also machines without a/v. -
