OK - you see this points at NAS, you are maxing out it's capability speed wise. If you want more speed, you must replace that. BUT, be aware, there is a domino effect likely here. You see this points at 8 port switch this is likely to be the next cause of issue because reasons. So simply replacing the NAS likely won't solve your issues, you'll also likely need to replace this switch.

yep, you get it. They need to hear it a few times.

Even though you can't initiate a remote renewal of the device's IP, it should phone home to the DHCP server if and when its network connection is disconnected for awhile and then reconnected, at which time it would pick up the new lease.

Normally when you disconnect/reconnect a network cable the client will phone back to DHCP since it no longer knows which LAN it is attached to. On WiFi devices, brief disconnection is by design not sufficient to trigger a refresh, but a longer outage should still prompt the client to request DHCP. I would guess that the if the client device is taken home for the evening and then returns in the morning (or even a lunch break, etc) it should pick up the new lease settings.

You could also attempt to force this by briefly disabling the SSID to which the client is currently connected (a couple minutes may do it).

I believe it was called NetDocuments.

I reached out to them today and they are quite reasonable in price in my opinion. They have plugins for Word and Outlook that are intuitive and they have consultants that will take care of the customization for you. That's my issue with SharePoint is that I would have to find a SharePoint consultant.

So who submitted (based on what recommendation) for a sonicwall when the grant was requested?

The grantor came up with that. The agency only filled out a form that said how many full and part time people they had doing certain functions and the grant had a formula that said how many of each model number of different pieces of equipment you got. They even speced a printer that isn't available through normal channels. (discontinued) The printer was probably the dumbest thing because they already had a large multifunction copier on each floor. No need for the printer at all, but it didn't matter. Then they send auditors to visit the site and make sure it's plugged in.

These things baffle me, but at the end of the day you take them because if you accept the SonicWall you get all the other gear on the grant. It's frustrating to say the least because I can't standardize the agency because different grants specify different gear.

Like I said it's real frustrating watching money get wasted like that. Government agencies have no incentive to do things to save money. Politicians only pat themselves on the back for money that gets thrown at one group or another.

My updated Outlook app keeps freezing up when I search for contacts, but I am using G Suite and Gmail in it, so maybe that makes the difference.

      Nope still the same.
You need to send a CTRL+ALT+DEL from the menu on the agents side,
      0_1513685762206_connectwise.png
Type in your admin stuff click ok then the client is asked to allow it, once that's done you can see all future UAC stuff.

Because you have to assume that they are going to just work for an hour, and deal with continuous billing as you go, it creates a lot of overhead and friction and you have to bill with the assumption that you are context switching on and off. It costs more to provide, it costs more to consume.

If you've paid for a block of hours ,and we are in within my scope for a project on the blocks you bought to deliver (with no weird issues) I have ZERO worries about the bill being disputed.

If your a customer who bills by the 15 minutes and disputes by the 15 minutes get ready for me to OVER document to make sure the bill will stick.

And then customers getting billed for insane amounts of time spent making documentation!

That said I still have some businesses that try to run computers until they won't power on anymore. I've been telling those clients I'm too busy to work on their stuff. It's just painful to work on a computer that slow.

These are the best to work on - you get paid for just sitting there waiting. Yeah it really does suck to see your time wasted this way - but you are in the business of making money - you informed them of the best IT solution, if they still want to pay you to maintain the machine - take the money to the bank!.

I'm with Dash. You did all the right things, they didn't, it's not a tragic amount of money, just an annoyance for them, and good work for you. Rejoice in having paid work with low stress and something that can be definitely fixed at the end of the day.

Gotcha, still something more easily done with a Microtik than Ubiquiti. Would be great Ubiquiti would start making their switches this way. Basically a switch can be a router, multiple routers, etc.

      That's an L3 switch.

While you are correct, RouterOS and RouterBoard do some things that are unique and will work with there $150 24 port switches. Back when we were bigger uses of them the only alternative was a Cisco Metro Ethernet switch that started at $2500.

Still currently a bigger fan of UBNT though.

No enterprise logistics systems run on Windows already. All major platforms either run on Unix or are literally made by the Unix vendors themselves. The leader in the space is Oracle.
