    • D-Link DSR-250n router port configuration

      Is anyone running a D-Link router? (and will admit it) I have a client with a D-Link DSR-250N at two branch offices. I'm trying to route from an Ubiquiti EdgeRouter lite, but I need an IP on a port besides the main LAN port on the DSR and I can't see how to configure an IP on another port. It does support creating another VLAN on another port, and it does allow inter VLAN routing. Is that how it is done in the D-Link world? (I know the obvious answer is to replace the D-Links with Ubiquiti, but I'm trying to avoid that.)

      Link to manual:

    • RE: UBNT EdgeRouter site to site VPN routes?

      Big thanks to @JaredBusch I was in a hurry to leave for a speaking engagement and had to hand off to @art_of_shred . It turns out part of the problem was that some of the servers on the far side had a persistent route set up so that even when we changed the gateway address from the Meraki to the EdgeRouter, they were still hitting the Meraki. Now that it's off hours I ripping through 19 servers to make sure the gateway is correct and there are no persistent routes configured that will mess things up.

      My interfaces look like this on both sides:

      in that both have traffic on the Tx side of the tunnel, but nothing on the receive.

      That's what I thought, and I have: (the local side is 192.168.1.254/24 and the far side is 192.168.2.253/23)
      protocols {
      static {

      }

      I just noticed I don't have NAT hairpin enable on my internal interface. I can't seem to get the syntax right to try that.

      I used the OpenVPN command line example on https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/204949694-EdgeMAX-OpenVPN-Site-to-Site
      I didn't do anything with the firewall. Would you use IPsec over OpenVPN?

    • UBNT EdgeRouter site to site VPN routes?

      I have a site to site tunnel between to Ubiquiti EdgeRouters. The tunnel shows that it's up, but I can't ping stuff on the other side. I added interface routes. My tracerts hit the internal interface of the local ER and then die. What else should I check?

      Check your port forwarding rules on your WRTG54GL to make sure they forward to the new address.

    • NIC teaming on Hyper-V

      I have a new Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 install. It has 2 integrated NICs and 4 NICs on a separate card. There are currently 4 VMs on the host and more will probably be added. The network switches are just a basic Linksys and will probably be replaced soon.

      Does it make any sense to set up NIC teaming on the host? This is more of a case of how to best set up the hardware in hand than what hardware is needed for the load. In all honesty I can't see any one VM using more than 1Gb/s, so there isn't a real performance goal.

      in this case the servers can be offline all weekend long, so downtime isn't much of a concern.

      Were both of the Hosts domain joined? The old host is Server 2008 R2 and the new host is running Server 2012 R2 if that makes a difference.

      Fortunately the hardware is not similar as the old hardware is a disaster. I like the fall back option.

      I have 3 VMs to move from one Hyper V host to a new Hyper V host. Has anyone had much luck with live migrations, or should I go straight to export/import?

      I think a fresh approach should be taken on this one. If there is a known job out there, look it what it's asking for and try to get the relevant parts of that resume on one page.

      Delete page 3. It's all covered above. What's not covered, you don't need. I don't think too many people looking for a sysadmin care if you know PhotoShop or FrontPage.

      get it down to one page by removing stuff like "static IP addresses"
      If you can setup a VPN, you probably know your way around static/DHCP IP addresses.
