You should be OK with a laptop for these speeds.

A laptop, yes. That's not the point. The issue is something with this particular setup, laptop or whatever, can't get the speeds so testing with it doesn't tell him anything useful.

I've run into issues specifically for laptops where I couldn't get decent speeds, something either with the HW specifically or power-management / network stack wouldn't allow me to get the same speeds as a server / workstation connected to the exact same port / equipment. Regardless, you're correct that this laptop seems to have issues.

Is the package 100MB up and down? Is it a full 100 or a "burstable" setup (not sure how common this one is, but at a former gig we had a line that was provisioned at one speed but would allow temporary surges to another tier before automatically throttling back to the base rate.)

      using iperf3
      DOWNLOAD SPEEDS

      iperf3 -c iperf.he.net -R -P 10

      UPLOAD SPEEDS

      iperf3 -c iperf.he.net -P 10

You can check a list of public iperf servers :
      https://iperf.fr/iperf-servers.php
if you're in another region or if the HE ones are too busy

Someone told me that his friend's kid got USD 130K job out of college as Cyber Security. Is that true?

Sure. $130K is good, but not crazy. And right now, a lot of security jobs are nonsensical. It's reasonable.

But someone dedicated might make even more, without going to school, sooner. So think of it in the broad scope.

Even in states like NY and CT I was seeing salaries around $150k for security engineer level positions. Down in FL, I was seeing mostly $110-130k, but again these are engineer level. I really only looked at the east coast during my search. Not sure about the rest of US.

What do the weekly hours look like for those kinds of salaries? I don't know anyone in that type of situation.

Normal. Standard professional days. Security positions are the same as engineering positions - just standard office hours.

Unless it's a SOC position then it becomes a 24x7 filled position. You may handle it in house or outsource for SOC.

Then there is GRC which is kind of mix between security and compliance. That is also standard working hours

      Hi,

Anybody here using restaurant purchasing system? what purchasing system are you using?

What are you looking for exactly - Restaurant Purchasing Systems - What does that mean exactly?

the system will document the food items that will be bought. it will also keep track of history requisitions. some system are attached to the inventory system. but we are just looking for a purchasing system for now.

oh you're looking more to track inventory?

not yet inventory, just purchasing system. inventory systems are a nightmare.

      FTFY

So the usual inventory is - you buy 100 pcs, the users will dedect 1 pc when they use it. Now on food, you buy 1 box of cooking oil, the box has 12 cans inside, the user will use 200 grams. So you need to swim on a freaking conversion table from box to grams. LOL.

That's how most businesses making an actual product operate. How you receive raw materials never matches the widgets leaving the door (or kitchen in your case.) Thus why I say all inventory systems are a nightmare.

      YMMV

UG - all this DRM shit is just so painful. Switching from my Roku to Amazon TV takes almost a full min. and sometimes just won't switch. I end up having to power everything down and start over.

      HUGE PITA.

I believe you can take as a basis the script, published in this article: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/resource-library/starwind-virtual-san-gentle-shutdown-with-powerchute
I hope it will be useful for you 🙂
