So it seems that the issue is likely the laptop. What does speedtest tell us from the laptop when connected to the network as usual, rather than directly to the ISP's connection?

      9 MB DL / 89 MB UL

Okay so consistently we know that the laptop has some problems. So it isn't useful for testing. Why your laptop has network problems is another question, but isn't related to your ISP.

      thanks, will try another laptop.

You aren't trying to use wireless in any of this, are you?

      nope.

Fortigate dashboard shows we are using 40MB and spikes to 80MB. When i test my laptop directly connected to ISP i get 15MB download / 80 MB upload. I'm expecting to get near 100MB as thats what we are paying for.

That tells you that the laptop has something limiting it. If the Fortigate can push more than that, then something is up with the laptop.

The laptop gets 80MB upload, i assume if the laptop have some limit policy on it. the upload will be capped at 15MB as well.

      Hi,
Is there a way for me to do speedtest from FortiGate 100D? I usually go to speedtest.net to check bandwidth but I'm hoping Fortigate will have a built-in command to speedtest or a browser for me to do a speedtest within Fortigate.

What exactly are you attempting to test?

If we are getting the bandwidth that we are paying from the ISP.

First, I will tell you that your line is provisioned to provide you exactly what you paid for.
No ISP will choose to go out of business by providing less.

Second, what you paid for and what you think you paid for can be very different in the low end market.

Finally, if you don't trust a test through your router, the problem is your router, or your configuration of it, not the ISP.

I actually test it removing the router and plugging the laptop (using the assigned public IP) directly to the ISP source. And the result i get doesn't make sense.

      Hi,

Anybody here using restaurant purchasing system? what purchasing system are you using?

What are you looking for exactly - Restaurant Purchasing Systems - What does that mean exactly?

the system will document the food items that will be bought. it will also keep track of history requisitions. some system are attached to the inventory system. but we are just looking for a purchasing system for now.

oh you're looking more to track inventory?

not yet inventory, just purchasing system. inventory systems are a nightmare.

      FTFY

So the usual inventory is - you buy 100 pcs, the users will dedect 1 pc when they use it. Now on food, you buy 1 box of cooking oil, the box has 12 cans inside, the user will use 200 grams. So you need to swim on a freaking conversion table from box to grams. LOL.

The 2-3 weeks i mentioned is a paid leave. I'm not expecting the hotel to require onsite support during my vacation. But it seems some employee get used to providing service to VIPs and sometimes themselves acts like a VIP aka "difficult diva user". At one time i need to ride a buggy go up 3 floors just to press or click a button (added to the list of strange, funny and sometimes annoying world of IT Support).

    • Extended vacation

      Hi,
I'm the only IT guy on this branch and I can say that I'm very busy during busy months. But during off months (Sept to October) we usually schedule an IT project or maintenance.
Have anyone here tried to apply for extended vacation like 2 months? On this company the usual employee vacation is 2 to 3 weeks.
What is the best reason if I will ask for a 2 months vacation? I'm planning to start a side small business but I'm not comfortable to use it as a reason here.
What you guys think? I could also offer that I can work from home during vacation if needed. Thou it will be 12 hours time difference (on the other side of the globe).
Usually IT from other branch visit me if I have big projects so I'm expecting that they will visit my branch if it needs an on-site support during my vacation.

    • RE: Epson TM-T88V Printer

yah, this printer doesnt have much. So it seems i may have lurker on my network. what is the best sandbox device to lure the lurker so I can trace? I'm hoping there is a device that i can leave open/no password or minimum password that will log everything.

    • Epson TM-T88V Printer

      Hi,
I have 5 Epson TM-T88V Printers and all of them were changed to 10.x.x.108/255.0.0.0 IP address (same ip address). The default printer factory IP address is 192.168.192.168.
Q1. How did the printer IP change? You can change ip printer settings via web browser (accidentally left no password).
Q2. Is there a way for me to trace who change them? if any. (maybe leaving 1 printer sandbox w/out password and wait for the culprit to change it again)
