Cursing myself for not working harder on my resume this weekend. Came in to bad news today for the future of our department and watched my two coworkers scurrying around trying to make excuses and save themselves instead of constructively working out a solution to the problem.

@scottalanmiller Yes, the SSD was the best upgrade of the last few years. Even today it's (in some cases) much better to upgrade your fleet with SSD over getting new hardware without SSD.

You are understating the performance gains from install an SSD.

Agreed 100% - you can take a crusty old beaten up E6400 w/ 4gb ram + i5 and make it fly with a decent SSD.

@Mike-Ralston Well make a good case for decent systems and get back to us!! The one I listed is the sweet spot for the $700-800 budget box IMHO - I can testify that it works a treat as I have almost exactly that at home.

This build will give you max bang for bucks, adjust the vid card as you see appropriate.

@scottalanmiller First time I read one of your RAID posts I was bowled over, so much delicious info. Then it was nearly duplicated the next day, different post, and the next day, etc. Always wondered why you didn't have a ready made copy pasta but the type speed explains it.
