Came in to an empty parking lot after the staff xmas party. Whole IT department showed up but thats almost the entirety of our staff this morning. We're all searching our email to see if we missed a crucial memo

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Need to keep myself distracted from thinking about something
Focus on my work
Think of xmas presents for family
Do my job
Focus
Hocus
Pocus
Oh god
My brain
It's dribbling out my ears
What am I doing sitting here wasting my life
Oh yeah, earning a living -
RE: Embracing Subscription Licensing
@Carnival-Boy I don't recommend it, but moving several thousand miles will help with this immediately. You can only bring what will fit in your car, you have 10 days to do it including travel time, good luck! (This is how I moved from Toronto to Victoria.)

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
I got a very promising phone call for my career today, I'm quite chuffed and there isn't anything work can do to get me down today.
Famous last words.......

Getting ready to fight sleep at the safety meeting.. After donating about a pint red lubricant for donor typing. Hoping for a match but then that will start my panic mood... How many people are really willing to give up any organ for someone else.....
Safety meetings - no one works no one gets hurt!
Hope the donor business goes well for you m8

@thanksaj Depends on what part of the UK (there are many geographical accents) and what you consider to be "The Queen's English". My vote on that goes to a solid Oxford accent.

Trying to find out if a Dell XT2 supports port multiplexing on eSATA????

RE: Christmas list.
Clearing out the dead soldiers at work and I have my eye on a Dell XT2 w/ eSATA that I may make into a NAS. It's got a dead 1.8" hdd, I will probably take it out and just install Linux to a USB stick. Looking at a 4 drive eSATA / USB3 enclosure to connect to it, then I can get some drives out of my desktop that are just dumb storage.

I am running an phenom 1100T at work and it works very well. Great processor
At home I have an FX-8350 and I love it. I tend to be an AMD fangirl but that's because for the money, I think they are great. Yes, I can agree that Intel makes a good processor but for the money, Ill chose AMD hands down every single time.Nailed it right there. AMD is king of the $150 or less CPU market.
Have to say though, the new Intel G3258 is tempting @ $70 (unlocked dual core, people OC to ~4ghz+ for gaming)

Just finished the last document that will see our ancient laptops sold in a silent auction. There's 20 some odd, which was a lot of DBAN and Memtest86 but considering how happy it makes the staff - its worth it.

RE: Good machine setup for multi platform admin
@ambarishrh Super jealous of your funding there! If it were my $$$$ I'd get myself a nice Cleo or Sager or other custom setup. You can get just an insane machine for that money. http://www.xoticpc.com/

Home lab server
xByte - what's the cheapest way to get the most cores and RAM? I wouldn't mind upgrading my home lab this winter but I'm not sure if you can beat the cheap consumer hardware route with sexy (albeit used) Dell gear.

Job Search - Tips, Ideas, Suggestions, Advice, $0.02 - all welcome
I've been extremely lucky to find my last few careers with direct contacts so I've been out of the job hunting game for a while. I moved across Canada from Toronto to my new (old) home in Victoria and I have found all my old contacts to be out of the game.
Suggestions for making new ones in a smaller city?
Any ideas on how to navigate all the job boards and such?
How does one get hired in 2014 anyway?
Resume / CV - what do you put on it, what do you leave off of it (example: picture of my face?)
LinkedIn - I am going to update my profile and make sure it's setup nicely.
SW meetings - seems like Vancouver might have an active cell but Victoria is too small. Perhaps start a Vancouver Island group? How successful / useful do you find these meetings to be?
What would be the best possible use of my time in this endeavour?
What am I missing? -
RE: Thanksgiving Day Plans
I have a tradition of watching videos of the idiots bum rushing Walmart, I expect a bumper crop this year.
