Well, what you can power with PoE rarely means you should. I can power just about anything, doesn't always make it a good idea.

What's the "worth it", in this case? What factor of it makes it even interesting?

@Kelly Just out of curiosity, were those people in IT or electrical/maintenance? It would be interesting to see what department would pay for what when things go wrong.

I've just been reading up on all the wonders of PoE powered lighting and I was just wondering if anyone here has had to deal with these installations before. What are your experiences? Are they worth the pricing with new buildings?

But if we are talking servers they are likely running some kind of hypervisor. Does the hypervisor run defrag?

Yeah it's a our hypervisor cluster. I can't find any mention of defragging in the documentation, but their documentation is a little scant on the real nitty gritty side.

As they are used and data becomes more and more fragmented, they also becomes slower as the head has to move all over the place.

He did mention that, but as a separate issue.

So awhile ago I had a vendor who we already do business with, and has been pretty reputable so far, claim that over time our 10K SAS drives will slow down due to wear and tear. I've never heard of this before and to me if a hard drive starts to slow then it just show as a critical failure. Is this wrong?

What's worse is - you stop paying, the APs stop working.

You can get a Unifi AC Lite for $90ish and that's likely good for 5+ years of free updates from Ubiquiti.

Oh we're definitely making the change over. 9k for licenses or 12k for new equipment.

I've got really strange offers from 1500-6500. I really don't know how people plan on making any money on these.

I'm looking to sell around 150 Meraki APs/antennas and accessories. Some of them are used and some are actually still in the box. Does anyone have suggestions for companies to sell this too? I know a lot of people here have gotten rid of Meraki gear.

@dafyre Yup! This Feb we're going to finally get gig I believe. There's another ISP that's emerged that's threatening our current one :).
