The worst ticketing system ever made. Web based, looks right out of the 90s and confuses the hell out of everyone who uses it.

Why do people keep buying it?

It's from 1999, to be fair.

My theory is that our CFO has a brother or sister working for them. The guy won't listen to any reason about it at all.

Is especially frustrating because our previous system (Spiceworks) was easy to use, did everything we needed perfectly and was completely free (we were actually in a budget crisis at the time).

Well it'll be 10Gb from our Smoothwall Firewall/Content Filter, which will also have a 10Gb in from the ISP, however that will be managed fiber and capped at 2Gb.

I am not sure how adding another switch would help, as it would also only have 2 SFP+ ports, and then a single port on both switches would be used for the uplink, so there would be a no net gain in 10Gb ports. Or were you thinking a different way of doing that?

If I do end up with another switch, I'd like to keep it in the 2960x and 3560x families as these are the only models we have on our network and I want to keep the models as consistent as possible.

First of all, I'm restating the issue you're having: "I need more fast ports, but I don't want to buy the correct equipment for my need." Either you're going to introduce another type of switch, or you're not going to get what you need, really quite simple so far as that goes.

      I think @JaredBusch meant the ES-16-xg: https://www.ubnt.com/edgemax/edgeswitch-16-xg/

Where did I say that I don't want to buy the the correct equipment? I merely said I'd like to maintain the consistency of models that I current have, that does not automatically mean that I am not prepared to buy what is needed.

The main reason I want to try to keep the consistency is because I am not very strong on the networking side, I know Cisco, and can get them working in our setup. Changing the core router to something else would mean changing our routing protocol from EIGRP to something non cisco (I think) and I am not too sure I am able to do that just yet. Not saying I am not willing to learn, just saying it would be WAY outside of my comfort zone right now.

That is not a bad idea, however the one you linked is only 1Gb SFP ports, I'd need 10Gb SFP+ ports.

    • Help with some Cisco Questions

Ok, looking for all you Cisco experts out there. Currently we have a 24 Port 3560X switch as our core router, it has a C3KX-NM-10G addon in it, we use both the 10Gb SFP+ ports for our backbone connections out to the rest of the network.

Got it so far? Well here is the question, we need another 10Gb port in order to bring our internet into the thing (right now it's just a 1Gb copper port). So whats the best way to handle this? Is there a replacement add-in board thingy that can net me 4 SFP+ ports? Or am I SOL here?

O, and the community support experience has been somewhat crap. The only think they mention is their IRC channel, where I got some british dude who was trying to tell me that my setup was "retarded" and that I was doing it all wrong.

    • RE: Observium

Been playing with it, one major issue I have run into has to do with locations and geo-mapping. If you want your devices to show up on the map, then their locations have to be mappable locations, you can set it so that it will change the location from something like "IDF-xx" to "1234 Main Street, Town, State" and it'll then map it, but then the device shows up in the location "1234...." and not "IDF-xx"

So it is impossible to organize devices into locations that make sense for my setup and have them mapped. It's one or the other. Which makes zero sense to me. I should be able to set it so that anything in the location "IDF-xx" is at address "1234...." and then anything that has that location should be mapped to "1234..." but show up in the UI at location "IDF-xx"

To me this is completely idiotic, and may actually be a deal breaker. It's kind of useless to me if I can't put the devices in locations that make sense to me (ie "IDF-xxx" and not "1234...."), though I may simply have to disable the map and geo-location services in it. Not sure yet.

    • Microsoft DNS and LOC records

Is it possible to create LOC records in Microsoft's DNS? I can seem to find anything on the web about it, other than a reference to a MS dev article that seems to imply that it should be supported.

My DNS is handled by our domain controllers that are running Server 2012R2 if that makes a difference.

Jamf's Casper Suite and DEP. So MDM.

Configurator is not really a management tool, it's a setup tool to get the iPads into the MDM reasonably quickly and with minimal interaction on each device.

Ok, so I am thinking about giving this a go for our environment. We don't track software licenses, but do track physical inventory (computers, laptops, projectors etc).

I assume I can import my current inventory into Snipe-IT via a CSV process? Can I also export to CSV?

      Export from what, SnipeIT?

Yes, sorry. I meant export from Snipe-IT. We do this in order to comparisons and updates to some things in inventory, helps us locate devices that need to be updated and/or added.

EG - Export all Ipad 4s. Change some fields (location, assigned user etc) then re-import to update the records. This is very usefule when re-assigning iPads from classrooms onto iPad carts, or moving hundreds from one campus to another.

I get up at 530a. Wonder why the hell I did not get to bed earlier, shower, pee and jump in the car by 6am. Get if it looks like I am gonna get to work at 730a, then I stop and grab a cup of tea and a small snack, it if look like it'll be closer to 8am, then I don't stop.

You'd think that I'd get to bed nice and early given the real f-ing early start, well that be the wise thing to do, however I usually get to bed around 10pm, sometime a lot later. I have never been, nor will I ever be, a morning person....

      @Dashrender

Well yes, but it will take much longer than a minute to netboot the things. But more than that it would take longer to plug them into power, then plug them into a switch. And that would also seriously limit the number we can do at any one time to something like 16. USB drive means I can do as many as I can plug into power, which in here would be something like 50 at a time.

Yeah, deploy studio can too. However I am trying to avoid connecting them to the network and netbooting them due to the time it would take to set that up. The USB option just means plug in power and the USB optical and go.
