    • Workflow management/check list

      Wonder if anyone can help...
We have a client in the insurance sector who are very strict about their workflow...however they are currently using sharepoint online through 365 and is a bit clunky and are massively exceeding their library limitations (they dont want to go down the onpremise solution). Therefore does anyone else have any client in this sector and know of and can recommend a good workflow management system.

As is stands, they need to give pricing/quotes quickly and often files/folders are re-saved multiple times and has to go through a series of check points to then be given cost to client...They want to find a solution where they can monitor / track the process of data to see where it's at in regards to creating, modifying, producing and sharing quotes and other documentation.

      Any ideas?

Okay, let me rephrase...If i was an employee of the client and it was my job to buy the licenses, where can i get VL or Enterprise licenses from? Can I call Microsoft direct or can I buy from a partner or vendor distributor?

      This link helps explain it:

      https://www.leostream.com/blog/navigating-microsoft-licensing-for-daas

but the question remains: If we want to use Windows 7 or 10, can I just by X amount of Windows licenses to match the number of virtual desktops?

Or is it better to use the Server desktop and then buy RDS Cals for each user!

    • RE: Licensing from DaaS

      I'm still a bit lost!!!
Our customer (lets call them ClientA) is working with a service provider (lets call them CompanyB).
Company B provides the DaaS environment for Client A of which is hosted on a dedicated server for them.

Does ClientA have to buy/provide these VDI licenses themselves or should Company B provide them? I am being told by Company B that cant provide and we'd need to get them through Software Assurance or some kind of Enterprise licensing....

I'm the middle ground and trying to source the licensing or assist where I can and point in the right direction but feel like im going round in circles...Can anyone clarify pls?
      Thanks

      Thanks guys.
So to confirm, i need to purchase VDI licenses for each user who needs to use the DaaS environment?
Is there a go-to site for these specific licenses or can I just purchase direct from Microsoft store or a hardware distributor

    • Licensing from DaaS

      Hi Team

Question, we're thinking of implementing a DaaS environment for a specific client.
My query comes around licensing. I've been told a mixed back surrounding windows licensing for the DaaS environment.

Do we need to license the Virtual desktops? Of course we'd have bought Windows Desktops with pre-installed Windows so would that license cover any virtual environment or would we need to purchase additional windows user licenses???
      Thanks in advance

    • Edgemax Site-To-Site VPN + NAT

Wonder if you guys can help me. I'm using a Edgemax pro ER8 and I have configured a site to site vpn which is working well.

However I am told that the other end will only accept traffic originating from 10.2.1.8/29.
Our local network is on 192.168.40.0/24 (using eth 4)

I'm told to NAT 10.2.1.9/29 to the server. How do I go about setting this up this NAT rule, ideally via GUI?
Any ideas how I can do this pls? I need this working by deadline today 😞

When i browse to the IP of the windows 7 pc, i get the following error: 0_1481707907058_FM2.JPG

    • Windows 7 share - accessed from windows 10

I am hitting my head against a brick wall with this.

Scenario: a new windows 10 pro computer was bought and we wish to connect to a simple file share on a long standing existing Windows 7 Pro computer in the same network.

The Windows 7 pc belongs to a workgroup and it's IP is 192.168.53.10 with hostname (dgserver)
I can ping this IP and the hostname from the windows 10 computer but when I try to browse it tells me I do not have permissions.

Note: when browsing it doesnt even give me an option to authenticate with a username and passowrd.
Sharing a folder on the Windows 10 pc and connecting from the Windows 7 pc works no problem but i want it working the other way!

I have checked the folders security and sharing permissions and EVERYONE has full control to it.
Network and sharing settings look good.
Tested with firewall off and disabled AV - no joy!

Any ideas? im missing a trick somewhere here!!!

    • RE: Room Calendar Permissions on Office 365 Exchange

They show up as room/resources no problem. The users can see and access them all but the contents just show BUSY and doesnt display the details or allow them to add new ones.

I'd like to apply full access to the room/resources.
I've done this via the GUI on Office 365, however it then adds the whole resource down the left hand side of Outlook and I dont what this...I just want the calendar to be visible and accessible.

      Thanks

    • Room Calendar Permissions on Office 365 Exchange

      Hi Team
I've just migrated a new client over to O365.

They have 6 room mailboxes used for calendars to book rooms in their office. All staff had full permission to each one and could see what bookings were in place and could add/edit them.

Post migration, all rooms have been created however no user can view the details or add/remove/edit bookings. They only see a 'busy' option.

Can anyone please let me know the PS script or where in the GUI i can find the options to 'Allow all users full permission to these room mailboxes as a default' ?

      Much appreciated

    • Tracking user steps on files

I've been asked if its possible to view a log of file changes. eg. logs of when and who opens/reads/deletes/copies files within a folder on the server.

Is this possible perhaps via event viewer or other?
We have a single File Server with Domain Controller. All users authenticate to the server so wanted to know if there is some way we can monitor or check who has accessed what etc.

      Thoughts appreciated.

    • Sharing folders with External users

Current solution: We're using SharePoint online and have certain files/folders shared with external users (as well as use for internal users of course)

We hate this solution as SharePoint mapped as a drive causes problems occasionally and we've massively exceeded our file limitations and have to keep creating new document libraries and so forth.

New proposed plan: Spin up a Virtual File server (and DC) and have all SharePoint folders stored on the server with permissions on specific folders.
I was thinking of (using CradlePoint VPN (formerly Pertino) to give the external users access but explaining how to download/install it to random external people could be problematic...

Therefore what do others use as an external file sharing facility from a Windows server?
We dont want to use Dropbox as this is unreliable and if the sync tool stops working and we dont know about it, we could leave ourselves exposed to problems.

    • Basic Folder Permissions

      Hi Team

I'm possibly having a mid week brain meltdown but need some assistance please to ensure im doing this correctly.

We have a Windows File Server which stores a Access database in a directory called: Folder A/Database/[Access File sits here] (as shown further below too).

We then have another directory: Folder B/Main/[Excel File sits here], This excel file references the Access database in FolderA.
      .
Managers need access to both Folder locations but Standard Users just need access to the Excel File in Folder B.
However, because the Excel file references the Access database in folder A. Users need read access to that Access file in order to use the Excel properly. However we dont want users having full access to that Database file. IE- We dont want them to be able to copy it.

I hope thats making sense so far.

      Folder A > Database > Access File
      Folder B > Main > Excel File

I have given the ManagersGroup Full access to both Folder A & B - they can work no problem,
I have then given a UsersGroup Full access to Folder B but just Read Only permissions on the Database folder within Folder A. The system works well, Users can use the Excel and all is ok.

However, if the users were to browse the UNC path \servername\FolderA\Database (although this path is hidden in the Excel), they can then be able to copy the actual access database which we dont want them to be able to do.

Therefore the Q I had is:

      a) Whats the best way to provide permissions to usersgroup that allows them to use the Excel file but at the same time be able to access the Access database, but not allow them to copy it? I understand if they have read rights, they can copy to their local computers and this is what we want to avoid.

      b) Can I use GPO to hide specific locations entirely but keep permissions?

      c) any other ideas im grateful.

I am about to look at advanced permissions such as Transverse Folder/Execute file - is that going down the right path?
Thoughts appreciated and apologies if this is basic but I've been thinking too long and have mind blank.

    • Sharepoint with Office 365 + checking in / out files

      Hi guys
I'm trying to move a folder from one location to another within a sharepoint site. However trying to do so I get an error that says 1 file checked out so unable to move....I navigate to that folder, check it in, and then re-try only to be told 1 more file is checked out....This process has been going on and and on and I can see many checked out files...

How and is it possible to view ALL checked out files, regardless of where they are and check them all in at the same time?
Note, i am used office 365 sharepoint.

      Thanks
