"Hello World"... the name is Jan kaspersen, from Denmark, Europe , Earth.
Been it IT for "too long"... around 40 years.. from when paper terminal still existed and 8" floppy drives were the thing. Currenty i been running my own business "Nextsystem" since 1996. Nextsystem was originaly a normal reseller , but we downgraded to be a "niche producer" of thin clients called NEXterminal. On request we also do some pretty nifty storage systems based on ZFS. When you been 40 years in it, it means i know a bit of everything (general) , and i know everything about "nothing" which is thin clients.

well luckey you then... i dont know when i got knowledge of the old sun os... but i started with ZFS in 14. august 2009 16:25 to be exact. I only worked onece for a semi big company once (back in 1994) .. and that was Data General... ( the one with Aviion and Clariion storage).. but that is just "old tale and long gone company".. but i have been on them All DG/UX HP/UX, SUNos/ Solaris, EP/IX, AIX, SCO and even interactive... and SMOS Supermax operating system... they had hybrid system with both motorola and MIPS in same OS... only danish people can come up with stuff like that... ( i never understood why they did it , just making trouble for you self)

@scottalanmiller no... i just proves that the concept of unmanaged devices, no matter they type is a bad idear. there is no Zero clients. or Zero maintanace on any equipmment... i have always argumented for that.. . Includes cameras, pumps, tv , anything that has a "pulse"..

@scottalanmiller well. lets not make this a thin client discussion again... as this post is about million of other devices, .. printer , cams , tv , fuel pumps, factory controllers etc. so how does people deal with those flaws... do they care if the local water supply shut down , or the electricity get shut off...

the latest is most likely to be explored... but the first can have real consequences in real life.. is this something that you guys take as serious stuff with customers ?

ex Teradici have immediate discontinues their PCoIP firmware for their TERA2 boxes ( that basically all thin client manufactuerer OEMs) , well they made a new firmware. but this TCP stack can be in hundreds of million of devices...

Yes... we have been running the "newest kernel" available for the last years.. currently eLux is on 5.4.x... Advantages is newest hardware support , and much better power managent for our laptop...

disadvantages... is third party kernel stuff using DKMS may not work at first try.... we had quite some trouble with the open source evdi.ko to support DisplayLink device with mobile thin client latops, which must be a "complete workstation" at the office with all the required headset , busylight and triple monitors, and just a normal laptops when brought home...

but a new kernel , and using older "compatible" libaries... is much preferred than to stay on an old kernel...

yes... but it is still the same issue ... where is the volume... as with hardware and thin clients , and with software.. where is the volume... the volume is on X64 hardware.. and not on ARM... i know citrix did some work there... but "others" dont... so the volume is not there.. ps: to my knowledge there we too many firmware updates to the "Texas Instruments" used by Fujitsu.... so we never did a ARM terminal (luckey us)

No, because that software is likely more expensive than a Windows license.

All major thin client software is free.

well eLux is FREE, but the management is not .. anyway the reason i linked to the video before is that at least 2 contributors said "not same functionality" "chrome is better" "slow as fuck" "pc desktop is better"... so i just wanted to show it basically possible to have same user experience on a thin client.. with "shitrix" or "PooOip". .. noamally i user the rigth name... but i still wanna be a "gang member"

You can use eLux effectively on most any "fat" hardware, correct? I see it has an ARM version, does RP4 work?

forget the ARM... not developed.. as the were many "client apps" not made for arm... so it is kind of discontinued... ps: i have to do a lot of cleaning up on my website... so current info is on myelux.com

any yes.... eLux works on "almost" any X64 platform... though wireless drivers can be an issue... rigth now the have a "free everyting" offer if you run it from a USB stick .. until 31. October....

@black3dynamite yup already running it on my laptop... very nice... but i do like ditto blocks for meta data om my M2. SSD... so i have some kind of "resilience" on my laptop...

that why i mentioned "https://www.illumos.org/ "...which today is more fully fledged than oracles version.. crossbow is also and extra(network stack) ... + the debugging too in illumos.... the debugging tool is though a steep learning curve...
