Roku 3 was totally worth the money.. To bad it's made me less productive already.

RE: SPF records deprecated
@dafyre Not really a change as much as an expirement/draft test that was never adopted as an RFC. It's like if you have draft 802.11n devices, then it didn't work out and was never adopted as standard and you went back to 802.11G.

RE: Industrial Engineer Schools: Best Ones in the USA
Virginia Tech is pretty well respected for engineering. MIT, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon.
Those are the top ones that I know of.

So I guess, what? We get one year of free credit monitoring?
Monitoring, just to let you know it's stolen.. Not to help do anything about it afterwards hahah.

RE: Help with Touch Enabled Laptop Screen on Acer Aspire
You work on users personal devices?
But, I would think that middle grey cable that goes in the green circuit board is it. You should be able to look up the board part numbers and get more of an idea.

Every time one of these gets broken, it massively lowers the value of making the next one, too.
I see it differently.
Every time one of these gets broken, it highlights how easily the governmental agencies can get into our personal data.
Who said its not the government (NSA) releasing these ransoms ware viruses?

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
So this morning some of the trunk ports on one of our cisco nexus switches decided to change themselves to access ports then 10sec later change back to trunks. Even though they are all manually set to trunk mode. Thanks Cisco.

RE: Lost Network / Server: Service blip -
Do they have battery backups on everything? Also do they have three phase power? if so they could have lost a phase of power and only effected equipment that is wired into that phase.

Security issues in auto updaters are a big problem. Most of them are prone to man in the middle attacks because they just don't use encryption and / or checksums.
This is especially troubling on mobile devices, something I would expect you to want this type of software the most. yeah this is a pretty big problem - sadly, one I'm guessing it's had since day one. or when they decided to do whatever they do with advertising.
Less of an issue on mobile devices the respective app stores handle it and it's much more secure

Mortgage companies lack security
Why do they ask for everything over standard email. SSNs. Whole bank account #'s. Checks with out anything blocked out etc? Is this a standard practice these day?

RE: Backup File Server to DAS
DAS also means if you get something like cryptolocker on the fileserver then it will likely mess with your daily backups. I hope you have off site backups too.
Also I'd use something else besides windows backup - it kinda sucks and means you need it to recover your data.

I thought this was an IT pro forum, not a "make money now" BS forum.... But with a name like "hack throne", I already know he's a schmuck.
I spolied his fun in this thread too http://mangolassi.it/topic/9270/free-calling-to-any-number-worldwide-online/10
I bet his next post will be "this 1 weird trick will make you lose all the weight you want!!!"

Comcast never showed up
So this Friday I took vacation from work because Comcast was suppose to come connect my 150mbit connection at my new house. They never showed up, never called. I can't hardly get their support reps to do anything about it. Even the CEO office email people don't seem to care. They were suppose to be here sometime between 7am-8pm. The CEOs office is offering to schedule the install on 2/4 but that won't work for me, nor am I taking vacation again to wait for no shows.
Just Plain redicolous.

Having done most of my career in either enterprise or MSP spaces I've actually experienced very little of this. I think that it is mostly an SMB issue. Not purely, of course, but moreso than in the enterprise where senior management tends to understand the value of any department supporting the business and treats them with respect - or else they are not managing an enterprise for long.
We have a least a couple hundred if not more users like it here. Many of them are lower level supervisors.

Cheapest 24U Server rack/cabient
Looking for a cheap one, Sub $700. Cheaper the better (for home use) needs to be full depth for rack servers.
What's the best deal out there?
