RE: Windows Server 2016 Licensing Info
@MattSpeller said:
@scottalanmiller wouldn't that be driven by MS to change to support the Sparc procs? Why would they even bother when they can just sit back and make a mint on the Wintel alliance?
He means intel to start making ones with more threads.. Or more likely AMD. Even though it seems most don't buy AMD they are usually the ones making most of the innovations and everyone copies. Intel just slightly improves what AMD does. Heck even an Intel CPU these days is an emulation of an AMD64 cpu.

HOAs are the worst. We will never live in a place with one again. They can be fine, but they bring so much long term risk.
I thought the house price was cheap, until I was it was a townhome and HOA fee. No thanks. I'll keep my home in the country.

Here's what we have...
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833997115)Oh, that's not fiber.. that's copper Twinax. Twinax isn't something you generally do between differing models of switches. Because you need compatible SFPs on each end.

Gone are the days when you could go into CompUSA and pick up a part like this, unless you guys have a few cards around the office or have a few connections to get equipment to set this up...
Seems like a few more days before this'll be up.
Especially since it is a holiday week.
Nahh, Just order them off Amazon with Prime.

@JaredBusch We keep the lids down.
As a single guy with no kids, I literally can't even.
I have a 65 Pound Pitbill and she would drink the toilet water if I didn't.. I don't care to get any licks after that so it stays down.

Hyper-V/Cisco 2960 Switch issues
I'm having an issue which I'm pretty sure is with a config on the 2960x switch for our Hyper-V lab/WDS stuff.
The base OS is now getting network fine, the VM get DHCP but can't communicate over the network. I think it's some default setting on the Cisco 2960x. Almost seems like Port Security Max Mac addresses is configured but there is nothing configured for it unless it is default now.. If so how do I disable it?

20 minutes is too long. I could walk away, take a dump, play one level of Angry Bird, buy a drink at vending machine, and come back within 20 minutes.
Teach your users Window Key+L The screen saver is only suppose to be a backup.

Are you sure they aren't related?
I will admit to not looking closely, but they look related.
It's pretty common for Opensource firms to make their money off offering enterprise support agreements.

Who said anything about paying someone? Did I miss that in the article that the FBI was paying someone?
Unless the ex-Apple employee that someone imagined was going to risk their own freedom (because what we are assuming that this imaginary person must have done is enough to send them to Guantanamo Bay for life, way beyond Mitnik level hacking here) just to aid the FBI, we have to assume a lot of money being paid for this imagined crime.
you're reading to much into it.
You've assumed the employee did it to help the FBI. What is they stole it for their own reasons, whatever those might be.. and now for whatever reason, is stickin' to Apple by giving it to the FBI for free.
Granted way worse than Mitnik level here...
If someone steals money and gives it to you it's still a crime..

Depending on how it's source for the TV you may be in violation of your contract to do so.

You gotta follow dumb policies or find a better company to work for,
We don't have policies like that or hardly any dress code either!

@Dashrender The IT Director does not want additional complexity (solid windows environment) and my staff is not Linux trained so there is a knowledge gap that would exist. Unfortunately I cant really do anything about that and I do not have time to be the main tech support whenever something breaks with the system. I have to work within the system I have. It looks like we are going to settle with the LRT224 due to cost concerns.... Thanks for your help though, I would much rather go with the Peplink ONE, but the $300 ($600 since we like to have a backup) price difference is enough to make a difference at this time.
I just don't understand why they are being so cheap on the hardware? Seriously, it's worth putting your company at risk, or have lower performance on your 200 Mb pipe over a few hundred lowesy dollars? If that's true, why not save some bucks and lower that internet pipe to 100 Mb or even lower?
How are 30 users even using a 200mb connection, unless your letting everyone stream video?

Not sure why you think it's related to programing language. It's just how the applications are designed, it's in no way related to the programing language.

RE: Home security - Attempted break-in
Honstely just get an alarm system like simplisafe if you don't have one, otherwise don't over think it. You can't keep someone out if they really want in. I live out in the country so most of the time during the day the doors are unlocked and open. I like the outside haha
Don't make purchasing decisions will your still emotional about it. Emotions don't make good decisions.

@alex.olynyk said in The functional level of the domain or forest is incompatible with this operating system:
Trying to promote Server 2008 when the domain and forest functional level is at Windows Server 2012R2.
Okay, this one should be obivious the functional level is at 2012R2.. therefore nothing older than 2012R2 can be a DC.
Make a new server 2012r2 VM as a DC. Do not try to lower functional level, this a bad idea.

RE: Consulting for a Small Construction Company
This is insane.. Small contruction company? Yeah they don't need any of these. They don't even need IT. They can just buy their fresh books or whatever. And email and email service like zoho or office 365 plus cloud storage.
