    • RE: What Helpdesk Platforms are IT Service Providers Using

Using a standalone SW, install at one client. Nothing for the rest, just email and phone as they are all smaller clients. Really looking for something To keep it all in one place which SW cannot do for me. Will be looking at the ServiceDesk+ offering.

When using my iPad tethered to my iPhone for Internet I have seen a lot of odd behavior. I mark it up to poor LTE performance.

I rolled a client in Kansas from XP to 8 last February. Last week I updated them to 8.1. Their server is SBS 2008 on a VMWare 5.0 host, so it will be a couple years before they update the server hardware.

I guess follow me wasn't good enough for roaming?

      Does that work for softphones?

That is for forwarding. It works for its purpose. Sorry I was not clear. For roamining external devices.

Cool, will follow that. Honestly, I've not been on Twitter for quite a while. Maybe it is time to get back into it.

I've been off twitter for the last couple months. May be time to jump back on.

@scottalanmiller Well some of the "newer" ones that I see have been cleaned up. They set variables at the very begging, use comments and curly braces appropriately. But the original that I'm supposed to work with to 'learn' from, is not. And on top of that, no formal documentation exists to show anyone how this is done, other than go bug someone to pick their brain. And even then it doesn't quite make sense.

I got in to Perl via the EverQuest Emulator project because the quests were all wrote in Perl. Right as I got comfortable with using it, the project implemented Lua for the quest system. I love this language. It is some much better to write in. The server source code is all C++. This is what I do for a hobby to expand my programming skills beyond VB.Net

@pol.darreljade there are a number of "write for both" systems out there. none work well yet. There is a new one I just read about a few weeks ago that seems able to take it up though.

A guy in Michigan wrote his own Wiki for in house use at his company and also is sharing it with the EQEmu community.
I don't have a public display link yet since he has it locked right now, but it is very friendly to use.

Pretty much my thought. Because I would not be a pilot if it was not also my passion. That is why i can be found at my PC late night after the kids are sleeping. I'm programming or learning or tinkering.

    • RE: Can anyone point me to a good reference for SPF records

@slazer2au This server does not send email directly. it is all relayed. I finally found it though..

Based on your comment about the A record, i changed it to this:

      domain.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:XXX.XXX.239.40/29 include:_spf.google.com ~all"

@slazer2au yeah, i have rebuilt it using http://www.spfwizard.net. Just not sure about the gmail relay and not seeing documentation on it.

      domain.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 a ptr ip4:XXX.XXX.239.40/29 a:smtp-relay.gmail.com ~all"

    • Can anyone point me to a good reference for SPF records

I was just told that some people at one client are having problem emailing certain people.
Looking at the bounce message, it is an SPF issue. This client used Postini and recently migrated to Google as required. All of their mail is sent through Postini/Google Apps. I am certain it is simply missing an A record for smtp-relay.gmail.com. I can add that no big deal, but their current SPF is this huge long mess that I think is over complicated. I would love to be able to simplify it down a bit.

I don't game now, but I had various self built boxes over the years with the then current 2nd best nvidia card.

Gaming now is just helping the girls learn to play their Disney princess or Dora the explorer game on the Wii.

I tinker in the EverQuest Emulator community, but that game is 15 years old and can run on anything.

    • I think I need to look into setting up a SBC or STUN server for a client

I have a client that will be moving to a Asterisk based PBX soon (they are testing devices now).

I want to give them roaming user functionality. A STUN server will get me past NAT issues, but provides no security. I am not familiar with a session border controller (SBC) as it has not been something I have had to deal with yet. A little searching led me to some recommended devices, but left me with questions.

Can anyone point my searches in a solid direction?

edit: bah posted in wrong section. move this please?
