      @garak0410 look at the tcp offload settings. I am not at a place to look at the client where I had the same problem. but there is a setting in hyper-v manager that I had to change then reboot everything in order get get the network to perform correctly.

      I used to recommend the Cisco/Linksys wireless routers for home use. But lately they have seemed slow and buggy and the fact that Cisco wants you to create a cisco logon and connect the device to them - No thanks!

      I've recommended Netgear to users because of the whole cisco borg thing.

      @scottalanmiller I was testing load speeds on large threads with paginations versus infinite scroll. I prefer the infinite scroll, but load times were painful on really long threads..

      Does anyone know if MaaS360 or Meraki (paid versions) support setting up rules to track locations for historical searching?

      It was @ajstringham who was gonna go with business for his friends and family. I think so far he is just trialing it on his own.

      I know that as my clients all come up for renewal on their Vipre agreements, I will be giving Webroot heavy consideration. They presented their case quite well at a SpiceCorp meetup last fall.

      @Katie said:

      @JaredBusch That's what I think, too - it's kind of a phishing thing at this point and isn't connected to my current email. I feel bad that my friends are getting spammed and think its me. 😞

      The VP at my former employer pays me to come take care of her home gear ever couple months and she has recently been suffering through this also. Just for her it is her active Yahoo! account, not an inactive AOL account.

      The headers all clearly show that it is not coming from a valid Yahoo! server. When she called me to ask ab out it, I looked in my SPAM file and found her emails to me. This means Google blocked them and the problem is that the recipients' SPAM software is obviously not up to snuff.

      Basically, no. You cannot stop other people from faking headers and sending spam.

    • RE: How does DirectAccess compare to Pertino

      @Carnival-Boy said:

      Not quite everything, I guess. We mainly use Hamachi for remote workers to access the corporate intranet, which is running on Windows 2003 Server. I believe Pertino won't support this 😞

      I've fallen at the first hurdle.

      Read the above posts discussing the subject. I would never have deployed hamachi as you did for security purposes. Yes, it works, but I do not like the method.
      Then again, I do not like a VPN gateway for users either since it does the same thing. For IT staff yes, but not users.

    • RE: Windows Server Core Install - When Would You Use It?

      @scottalanmiller said:

      There are remote GUI tools. You don't need PowerShell to manage Core.

      Remote server management prior to the system being joined to the domain is a pain in the ass. I have never been able to get it to work well. Tons of information out there stating you can do it with trusted network rules and such, but again, I have never gotten it to work right. Why waste my time when I can just turn on the GUI, handle the few tasks I need / want to handle on server turn up, then drop the GUI.

      Why no cached mode? I would assume the delay you are seeing is communication lag with the server for some reason. No idea though as I always have outlook installed in coached mode.

      That is the important piece that I think a lot of phone vendors plow over. Here is your $80k new phone Borg system. Like it.

      @scottalanmiller said:

      It's the only install option that I normally use. I only install the GUI if there is a specific site technical deficiency making it necessary.

      I haven't had the luxury of time enough to learn the relevant powershell scripts, that is why I add GUI, then drop it.

    • RE: Windows Server Core Install - When Would You Use It?

      If you have a data center license it makes perfect sense. You have hyper-v and then server core. The servers are managed remotely anyway.
      I would install the core, add GUI and configure so needed then remove the GUI once it is able to be easily handled via the remote admin tools.

      use it at home if you want, but personally, I would not want to use it even there.

      Nothing against linux based stuff. I ran ClearOS 5.2 for a long time, then switched to pfSense. I recently (last week) purchased an Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite for home since I am using it at client sites. Those are running Vyatta on some version of Debian (I believe).

      The contrast when writing this post is so bad I can barely see the text I am typing.

      I do personally like the darker background, but the pieces all do not work together.
