How long did you wait before changing all your stuff to Chicago 6?

It didn't take that long but was just a pain. I literally just finished updating 10 PBX systems to point to Chicago6 which is what VoipMS switched everyone to and then all of a sudden Chicago7 came back online and they automatically moved everyone back to Chicago7. I had to go back in and change everyone back to Chicago7 on the PBX.

Did they not update the DNS to be the IP for 6 also?

@EddieJennings I would rather have the OS on bare metal. We're a Dell partner, I can't get what I want from Dell.

I need 16TB in Raid5, 16GB Ram, Discreet Graphics, M.2 boot drive, Windows 10 Pro.

I see Windows 10 Pro for Workstation, will let me use Xeon processors, I'll revisit the Dells.

I would go with a standard 1U server and just run Windows 10 on it instead of a hypervisor if that is your need.

You should be able to get a PCI riser card in order to put in a full sized video card of some kind.

I already had Disk2vhd downloaded. I posted while CloneZilla was making an image of the entire disk.

The vhdx is made. Now just to wait for the thing to upload to the server and test it out.

I need to provide an on prem exchange solution for a company with 100 users and about 135GB in mailbox database use.

135GB per user? That's pretty high. But for 100 users is still just 13.5TB, so not bad. But wow, they should really reconsider how they are using email.

      135 database. Not per user.

      during it's 5 year lifespan

Do SSD really have a 5 year lifespan? This is shorter than many companies keep their servers in production.

If you buy Dell or HP, you buy it to able to get support easily. If you go outside the warranty, well, then you're on your own. Servers have 5 year warranty max and so have the enterprise SSDs and HDDs. So yeah, the lifespan is 5 years but it might work for 20 years, who knows...

Dell will let you buy 2 more years.

@Jimmy9008 said in Veeam Replication to Azure:

The replicas would be offline, so I would expect to only pay storage costs and data inbound costs but no other costs until in a DR situation.

That is not how anything works.
You have a replica sitting there. A replica is a full VM sitting there. You have to have the CPU and memory "reserved"... You have to pay for that privilege.

@Jimmy9008 said in Veeam Replication to Azure:

How can I calculate prices for running this?

Veeam has a list of providers that offer DRaaS for Cloud Connect.

You call one and get a quote.

Something else weird is that usually when I make a change and hit submit - I get the red apply button in the upper right corner but the last couple changes I haven't been getting that. Guess It is time for a server reboot.

You get that for changes that affect the Asterisk dial plan, which is most things.

But email settings have nothing to do with the dial plan.

His concern is that the system wasn't built by him, so he's trying to find every possible source of configuration.

That was not clear to me.

But I would still stand by my statement. You look where it is supposed to be with the default tool. If it is not, then it is a snowflake and you need to rectify that. Snowflakes are bad.

Note to all, I have not yet ran though my instructions in one go. This is basically a copy paste of them as I built up the server.

I'll wipe it tomorrow and do it again to make sure the instructions are solid.

No, because it is created in the local folder and then moved and permissions fixed.

I wouldn't know. I just go root and go to work. I'm too lazy to type sudo a hundred times. Probably frowned upon but I don't care.

I'm so used to typing sudo, I type it even when I sudo su - into root.

I've used debian a lot and sudo isn't even installed by default. Well, in a minimal install that is.

Yeah, I learned that when I setup my current Unifi and UNMS controllers.

I run those on Debian, and no matter the OS, I always do minimal installs for server instances.
