These scans take about 50x as long over the internet as internally, even over a Gb WAN connection.
Do you want me to post results here as screenies or do you want a pdf pm to you?

      Don't publicly post them!

    • RE: how big is the shipment box/boxes

Amazon gives you the dimensions and weight of each product. However, they do combine boxes quite often. If you dont want boxes combined, you could stagger the orders...

Although it seems kind of odd to order patch cables out of country. Those should be cheap and easily available anywhere.

      Brand Name GearIT
      Item model number 6CAT6E-BLACK-10PACK
      Item Weight 1.41 pounds
      Product Dimensions 3 x 6.5 x 10.5 inches
      Item Dimensions L x W x H 3 x 6.5 x 10.5 inches
      Color Black

    • 10 year old - Windows or Ubuntu?

I am looking to setup a PC for a ten year old. I am looking to install AV and perhaps a filter. I am doing this as a favor so I would like to stick with free options.

The other side of me just wants to put xUbuntu on this system so I never have to touch it again. I cant imagine there is anything a ten year old girl who never PC games ever would do that it isnt in a web browser.

      1. Can a contractor do their job without having full access via FTP to the site?

We don't even have FTP to any of our sites, so that's definitely not needed.

That's a red flag to me. They shouldn't need to download or upload anything other than images or small files which can be done directly through the website.

This might be the worst vulnerability we've seen to date...

On-Prem datacenters, this is potentially good (It's forcing people to run denser who were not coming close to the limit). people close to the limit will just have to order gear.

Uh what? Potentially good. Even of you have the extra resources, you paid for them. So how can this be potentially good to lose them?

It teaches the on-prem staff to learn how to build their systems appropriately.

That's like saying me taking 30% of your paycheck teaches you to spend your money appropriately and not be wasteful..

I might try that.... give m 30% of your paycheck!

That's basically the same concept as losing 30% resources

SEP needs to be patched before the OS can be patched. Not surprising, considering it is Symantec.

    • RE: Understanding the Microsoft MTA Certifications SAMIT Video

@satam55 said in Understanding the Microsoft MTA Certifications SAMIT Video:

Meh.....I don't think the MTA is totally useless. I think some of the MTA certs can be useful at landing entry-level Helpdesk/Desktop support jobs at companies that are Microsoft shops.
Especially if you sell the skills & knowledge learned from studying for MTA certs (i.e. enableing/adminstering/configuring/troubleshooting Office 365, Active Directory/Group Policy, Remote Desktop, & etc.) in your resume & interviews.

I guess it is better than nothing... Although it obviously doesn't carry the weight of certifications such as MCP or even entry level CompTIA certs.

Why waste your time on something that is slightly better than nothing and cost you money? You might as well go the MCP route? I am sure the Desktop OS MCPs are really easy. I only have experience with server MCP tests, but those were easy enough.

What software did you use to create the bootable drive?

Rufus, etcher, Fedora Media Writer, etc...?

      Unetbootin

On Windows, I like using Rufus.
      http://rufus.akeo.ie/

On Linux and Mac, I’ve had great success with Etcher.
      https://etcher.io/

So after going back and forth and trying every utility under the sun, I found that this is an issue when booting to 64 bit Linux on any distro with my exact motherboard. There is a setting that needs to be enabled in the bios that isn't explained or anything through setting is called IOMMU Controller.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the informative link I found from another IT forum....

    • RE: AntiVirus on Servers?

You should always have AV. Proper configuration is the key. You dont want to hurt performance. In most cases, vendors have what exclusions should be set as they deal with this all that.

I went with Lubunutu in the end. The hardware I have is old, but not ancient. Centrino 2 and 3 gb of RAM. I tried puppy linux and bodhi linux, but didn't care for either.

Puppy was fast, but ugly as holy hell. Bodhi didnt seem to work right on my system. It was sluggish for some reason.

Ya Puppy is just bad. I hadn’t Slitaz running on an old thin client at one point. It worked pretty well for that.

I didn't see your reply until after I decided on Lubuntu. I will try a Slitaz on a usb drive.

I dont feel obligated. I just want to give it a shot 🙂

How long does it take you to pay for the difference of drive with voltage savings. I think that is a myth especially considering how unprofitable mining has become.

I am still using on a daily basis and could not be happier. I had about a month of withdrawals eliminating Google from my personal life, but now I couldnt be more thankful I wen through this exercise.

I thought it would probably be temporary, but now I could never see myself going back.

DuckDuckGo is a much better search engine anyway, without all the advertising bullshit.

Sure, but not as bad as running Google services and getting targeted ads all the time. If you want to be 100% safe, you have to unplug completely.
