So if they have a home lab and professional experience , you're gonna still pay minimum wage?

If they have professional experience, you have to figure out how valuable that experience is to you. If it's professional experience in something that you don't touch, minimum wage might be appropriate. OTOH they might be able to make more somewhere else, so it's not a good fit. They are worth more - just not to your business.

I can't see paying someone in any type of job that even touches a computer $8 an hour let alone someone you want doing networking or sysadmin work. I can't imagine they stay long either since most entry level IT jobs pay $17+ an hour

@NerdyDad is right. This is an IT Risk Management issue. You need to figure out your Annual Loss Expectancy (ALE).

How is cost and benefit not important to this thread? Financially it's the only thing that makes sense

Serious reminder that corrption in America, having to pay off local officials, is just the same as it is in the third world.

I didn't believe this until working at the law firm I work at now that mainly defends businesses. It is absolutely horrible what happens to businesses, especially SMBs.

Yeah, there is no protection for ordinary people in America. The law isn't there to protect people, it is a weapon of the rich and powerful.

We are a police state ...

Unlike most, I know the how and when it actually happened. Won't get into that here tho.

    • RE: Root vs Naugat Update in Coolpad Note 5 Suggestion Needed

Most of the time when you upgrade android, you break root. If you upgrade before you root, rooting may not be possible.

I would advise against doing any rooting procedures if you do not understand the process of rooting. You are likely to brick the device.

A family member has refused at least 5 attempts of me trying to back up their pics and videos on cloud storage. Well, today my daughter (15 months old) picked up her phone and dropped it and damaged the screen. The phone will turn on, but the screen is completely black.

It's obviously working as notifications are coming across. The screen has a passcode, but we know it. I tried connecting it as a media device, but on screen approval is needed. What can I do?

Ok maybe stupid question, does the digitizer still function? If you plug it in and just tap on the area where the pop up is, can you get it to accept?

I am not sure, I was thinking about hooking up an OTG cable and a usb mouse which I know would work, but if I am sure I have a high chance of locking myself out with incorrect pin entries.

I'd try a keyboard first. The OTG should let the keyboard through.

      https://forums.androidcentral.com/general-help-how/376515-quick-guide-accessing-locked-phone-cracked-screen.html

It looks like you can use a keyboard as one of the forum members mentions doing it in a reply here. He/she was sucessful doing it on a S5 which is what we have.

I fixed the issues I was having with Bitwarden. I used it over the weekend. It's ok, but I do miss the one click autofill feature of dashlane.

However, I think other than that Bitwarden might meet my needs for FREE!

Dashlane is no longer insanely more expensive than LastPass, but I will simply never use them after the shitty annoying sales tactics. At least until they are a significantly better and cheaper option. Which at this point they are not.

      Dashlane: $0 / $3.33 / $4 (Business)

LastPass has something they call "Teams" that would cost me $2.42 per user per month with 6 users.
      https://www.lastpass.com/business

Dashlane and LastPass gave me 1 free year for asking a question on Spiceworks about password managers. That is how I ended up falling for Dashlane.

I've used LastPass since I don't recall when and have had a Premium subscription since 2009.

I trialed Dashlane, but there is nothing about it that made me want to switch. Also, the costs were significantly higher then. I believe is was the difference from $1/month to $4/month. Then their sales guy was emailing me 6+ times per day when I did not subscribe after the trial. Just fuck that shit.

DL has significantly improved since I started using them. I was really liking their new Android app. It is hard for me to justify renewal again, when Bit Warden pretty much does the same thing for free.

Oh and I rarely if ever had to do anything with SpendMap. Their support was absolutely fantastic! We had it for a few years and I think I only touched the servers to update them here or there. The support did all app updates themselves and I just had to be available for support if something went awry.

    • Open Source Vendor Security Asessment

Over the past year or so, I have been looking for a decent interactive questionnaire to send to vendors. I have been using Excel spreadsheets which isn't ideal. I came across VSAQ, which is google's solution. I must say it is very well put together, and it is almost like giving a full security assessment to the vendor.

      Check out the project here:

      https://opensource.googleblog.com/2016/03/scalable-vendor-security-reviews.html

      Check out the demo here:
      https://vsaq-demo.withgoogle.com/

I have already built our server and starting tweaking the .json files for our needs.

Even Microsoft themselves tell you that you are still vulnerable if you don't make the reg changes. If you carefully read the security bulletins released by MS you'd see that

Nessus works off CVEs not patches. Read the CVE and you will see patching is only part of the solution.
