Creating a new document made a difference. I've known that I needed / WANTED to recreate many of the forms and such we have for HR and the departments. A vacation request was created in WORD and dumped to PDF, which forces a person to use a pen to complete it.

A form would be better... Especailly now with the options of OneDrive and Sharepoint....

I prefer a 12 month or non-expiring password but at least 16 characters long. Complexity can go fly a kite. Those only cause users to write things down.

Finally! For a long time I thought I was the only person who enforced this policy. Even as a part of GPO on our domains I set it as minimum of 12 (due to the entropy at the time), but basically turned down the complexity. Even some of the more non-technical users have extremely complex passwords now that they don't need to write down, because I encourage four random words with maybe a number or two between them.

And hey, if you wanna get inventive with the spelling, go ahead, if it's easier for you to remember, helps against broad dictionary attack as well. More experienced people will try cracking passwords with multiple words and even numbers, especially these days, but obviously even some crap like (3fOe38!45b is not only easy to crack, but also hard to remember, and I'm still baffled as to why this is encouraged. I'm sure you're aware of this, but I'm just saying it for people who may not realise that complex to remember does not mean complex to guess.

@scottalanmiller Social engineering is a great way to get what you want. Buffer overflows, unescaped SQL queries can be patched, people wanting to be "helpful" is an aspect of our culture and I imagine only by hiring the most irritating, least helpful people on the planet can you begin to really secure yourself against your own employees.

You have two things listed in your OP. It would probably be best to create two threads. One for moving from two split exchange domains to one, and second for the missing email question.

Dash - Not really about the two email domains, just the missing email message. I moved our primary to O365 a few months ago, I plan to move this over to it as well sometime this year....

Is it in her spam folder? Or how about a spam software installed on the Exchange server?

I checked the Junk folders but didn't find it there either. No SPAM folder was noticed, but I'll go back and check to ensure this tidbit.

This is almost always the case that she either has a rule that she doesn't remember putting in or it is marked as spam.

I did factor a rule issue,.. however the one rule she had didn't seem to merit causing the issue.

Sadly one item I failed to mention is that this appears to be a hit or miss issue. Same email can be sent - She'll either get it or not. I did explain to her that it could be a few things,.. word filter, attachment type or actual delivery.

But when the same message is sent 3 times, received 3 times, but only 1 shown.. seems odd.

Maybe. But one of the main benefits I see people give for BYOD is cost savings. In your case, there is no cost savings, because the company still provides the same level of hardware and BYOD devices are just additional devices above and beyond what is already provided by the firm.

Actually in this case the costs would go up, because you would need to support an onsite guest network for those devices.

True, although most companies have that already. And technically that isn't needed, you can let people access via LTE or whatever. But that becomes pretty silly.

Sounds like your DHCP pool is exhausted and when the clients refresh they are getting a new IP (though that's not how I understood DHCP leasing to work - as long as your assigned address was still valid, and you're renewing you should get the same one issued back to you - I suppose the DHCP server could be making issued addresses as now invalid).

What are you using to provide DHCP now?

DHCP clients normally try to verify their DHCP assigned address at the half way mark - 30 mins is half of the original 3600 lease time, so it makes sense that it's related, what doesn't make sense is why your machine is changing IPs?

What is happening is the mapped drive is sitting idle for 15 min and then disconnecting to free up resources. DB applications such as yours get these errors because this connection is not persistent as g.jacobse has eluded to with the /persistent:yes command. This will keep the drive mapped but does not stop the idle timeout from occuring which will continue your error.

Do this on the machines in question: (also can be deployed via Group policy script)

Open CMD then right click and run as administrator

      net config server /autodisconnect:-1

This will set the autodisconnect to never disconnect and you should not see this error any more.

Give it a try and report back your findings.

Fix the storage issue then move to VMs on the systems that you have, most likely.

I agree - that type of message just tells me that I don't want to partner with you. But it is a form of cold calling...

It sure is, something that we block completely. There is good and bad cold calling, though. If you cold call me and ask to speak to me, I'm not going to be pissed, I'll just hang up. But if you cold call and demand to set something up rather than politely asking if we can.... we are done and you are actively blocked and will never get our business.

There is legitimate sales and downright unprofessional "never do business with them" sales. A company doing these tactics definitely does not believe in their own product and is trying to get sales through an intimidation style rather than through presenting a good product.
